Heatwave: Day 2
It seems more tolerable today than it was yesterday, and I'm not sure why. It's certainly hotter. About 95 degrees according to our thermometer (which might not be totally accurate...Lance's truck thermometer is about 5 degrees higher usually and that is almost always dead on). Indoor temp is 81. I'm sure it'll get hotter inside as the day progresses, but I'm holding up well so far, and Reece seems to be too. We already had our morning constitutional before it got too hot (I say that now sometimes, instead of "walk," because she knows what "walk" means...and because I like old-fashioned verbiage).
Tomorrow is supposed to be 100+ degrees. Some local stations say 101, some say 103. It doesn't really matter though, I guess. It's still ridiculous. Reece will be safely ensconced in an air conditioned building (Petsmart) and I will be flitting to and fro in various air conditioned buildings via my air conditioned car. I'll spend most of the day in the library, most likely, but Sigga and I will be having lunch at Ikea. And I'll probably run to Grocery Outlet to pick up some stuff for Kim's visit, and maybe a trip to World Market.
So, lunch at Ikea. I'm excited. I've never eaten there before. I've heard good things about their food.
Anyway, I'll be putting dinner in the crockpot around 2. Beans and weenies. And I have tomatoes and cucumbers I can eat as well...as well as crackers and cheese. And whatever Lance wants to eat with his. I bought all this stuff at the commissary that I can't even cook this week because it's too hot. I ate an english muffin pizza last night when Lance was out...used the toaster oven so I wouldn't heat the house. I've had to get creative this week.
I made too much egg salad over the weekend. Probably only safe to eat it through tomorrow or so, and then I should probably get rid of whatever's left. I had some on a toasted english muffin for lunch just now. Delicious.
We have a rough itinerary for my SIL's long weekend here. She arrives on Friday night (just in time for temps to cool down to the mid-'80s. Still unpleasant without A/C, but much more tolerable). We don't have the exact days determined for these activities yet, except I think Sunday is the best day to go to Mt. Rainier because we'll be done and back in time to pick Reece up before Petsmart closes at 6.
So one day: Mt. Rainier National Park
another day: downtown - Pike Place Market, Space Needle, Experience Music Project(?)
another day: Museum of Flight and EITHER Woodinville Wineries OR Snoqualmie. Her pick.
She leaves Tuesday afternoon, so we'll probably go into Kent's historic district Tuesday morning and have breakfast either at Wild Wheat Bakery or Bittersweet Restaurant or something. Lance wanted to do Panera, but I would rather we go to a local business. She can go to Panera any time. I would always rather support local businesses anyway, especially in this economy.
Anyway, I have work to do this afternoon. I'm still only putting in around the minimum hours required because I still need time to prepare the house for our guest. I'm saving most of the cleaning for Friday, though. And when it doesn't feel like death outside, I can go out and pull some weeds.
