I've missed my calling...
Apr. 3rd, 2009 08:38 pmI won the fortune cookie message contest at work. There were 3 prizes, and I won first prize.
My winning entry:
"If you look behind you to see where you've been, you'll walk face first into a lamp post."
Apparently, it made the management team laugh the hardest (let's ignore the fact for a moment that it's an actual metaphor for my life right now)...and so I am now the proud owner of a gift certificate of the Mayflower of China restaurant. Second prize was a container of fortune cookies. Third prize was a box of chocolate Pocky.
So...I should quit my job and spend my life writing fortunes. Yes?
Anyway...Sigga and I had plans after work today. Since she has significant sewing experience, she agreed to make some throw pillows for me to replace the ones that Reece has chewed up. Or rather, she is making pillow covers. So we went to JoAnn to pick out fabric.
Of course, we passed a winery on the way, and they had free tastings, so...
I didn't drink much, since I was driving. Sigga had 3 tastings and walked out with 2 bottles. She really liked the dessert wine that I told her about - it tastes like chocolate.
Anyway...after about a half an hour or so there, we made our way to JoAnn. I ultimately picked a merlot colored micro-suede and a stripey fabric that was predominately merlot with gold and drab stripes. I bought 4 pillow forms. Everything was $50, since the fabric was 40% off and Sigga had a 20% discount on the entire purchase. I think 4 pillows for $50 is a really damn good deal, considering what you pay for throw pillows, even at places like Target. They're generally anywhere from $15-$20 each at the discount stores. So I feel like I got a tremendous deal, particularly since these are going to be custom made. Sigga isn't charging me for her labor, since Lance is going to fix her computer.
So aside from work, the day hasn't been half bad. Work was mostly just tedious and boring. Not a whole lot going on today.
I got approved for the 15th off, so Lance is taking leave and we're going to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. Right now, day camp is booked, so Reece will probably be going with us. We'll just have to stick to the dog-friendly establishments in the area. But she's on the waitlist to get in that day, so if there's an opening, we'll take advantage of it.
Tomorrow, I am taking Reece to meet Lisa for a hike somewhere. Given all the rain we've had lately, I want to stick with a paved trail. I suggested the Alki Beach trail, so as long as she's good with that, that's where we'll meet.
