How Boring Are We?
Lance and I have a stolen weekend, but we're both in the office right now. This is how we roll. I think he had to do a lot of updates on his computer anyway.
Yesterday was wonderful. His flight actually arrived early, so he was texting me to tell me that he had just gotten off the plane, and I was still about a mile and a half from the airport. But I still got there in time. I beat him to the baggage claim by about 5 minutes.
The weather was UNBELIEVABLE. It got up to about 80 degrees yesterday. We took a drive in the truck so he could blow out some carbon, and I showed him where I worked. So we drove from my office to his so that I could see how close they are to each other. We might actually be able to meet for lunch sometimes! And he wanted to show me the back way of getting to and from work, in case the freeway is backed up too much. It couldn't be easier to get there the back way.
On the way home, we stopped at Hollywood Video, where I let Lance pick the movies.
It was still only 2 pm by the time we got back to the house, and the weather was too good to be inside. So I talked Lance into going down to the Green River Trail with me, and we walked for about an hour and a half. It was really nice. It's a great walking path, and we had a spectacular view of Mt. Rainier.
By the time we got home, I started on dinner. I made a baked pasta dish to use up some leftovers that I had - some homemade pasta sauce, some pasta, ricotta, mozzarella. It was an ooey-gooey mess, but very good. And now I have tons of leftovers for the coming week.
After dinner, we went out again...got some Dairy Queen and went to a few of the newer subdivisions around here. I think we both have a bit of buyer's remorse with this house, and Lance wanted to see what else we could've gotten for our money. But some of the houses we looked at were quite a bit more than what we paid. I came to the conclusion that we pretty much got exactly what we could afford, but I don't think either of us had any clue of all the repairs and work that needed doing. Our inspector wasn't great and he missed a lot of stuff. And I think this is where our feelings are coming from mostly...that we were ill-informed about what to expect from this house and it ended up being more than we bargained for. Fortunately, a great deal of the issues are mostly cosmetic.
Anyway, we went to Dairy Queen last, so we brought the blizzards home and proceeded to watch one of the movies that Lance and I rented. I knew from the get-go that it would be horrible. It was a direct-to-DVD movie - a "sequel" to War of the Worlds - that was obviously bad because Tom Cruise didn't do this movie (not that I'm a huge Tom Cruise fan, but he would've done the sequel if it was any good, right? And it wasn't directed by Steven Spielberg). The most well-known actor in it was Kid from Kid & Play, and he was hilariously lame. We laughed at the awfulness of this film (so glad I had a rent one, get one free coupon, so we didn't pay for this dreck). We made snarky MST3K comments as we watched. And I really only watched about 1/3 of it, because I gave myself a pedicure.
Oh, and Dairy Queen...damn you with your hit-or-miss blizzards. It depends on who is working there. But I ordered a Kit Kat Blizzard and only about half of it had Kit Kat pieces in it. The bottom half was only vanilla soft-serve. And they didn't even make it right, because it was supposed to have chocolate sauce in it too, and it didn't. I won't order anything from them again when I see the guys working behind the counter. The girls that work there always do a fine job making the blizzards.
Anyway, today is a lazy day, because that's what Lance was expecting out of this weekend anyway (but I couldn't let such a gorgeous day go to waste yesterday). And the weather isn't nearly as nice as it was yesterday. So we're hanging out and we're going to watch Blades of Glory later, which I picked out because I figured Lance would like it. It's his kind of comedy. He just happened to overlook it at the video store.
But now, I think I want to take a quick shower.
