Seafair

Crap...LJ just ate the huge post I wrote about this. Starting over again...

Anyway, Seafair is this weekend. I've heard a lot about it...mostly about the Blue Angels performing there every year. It's a pretty popular event in the Seattle area. The Blue Angels have been practicing today, and I've seen widespread complaints on Live Journal about how annoying it is to hear them practice (although honestly, they could've practiced in the skies above my house or workplace and I would've been really happy...I love watching them). My only complaint about them is that they were responsible for the traffic snarl I was in on my lunch break that caused me to get back late to work. Both directions of I-90 were closed off during their practice, which backed up traffic on all the other freeways. It was a nightmare.

Anyway...the point I am trying to make here is that I get to be one of the cool kids this weekend who witnesses Seafair from a boat on Lake Washington. My co-worker, Sigga, and her boyfriend have a boat and go out every weekend, and they make Seafair one of their annual boating outings. I have been invited to come with, and I just secured caretakers for Reece for Sunday, so I'm good to go.

Time to relax on the lake (except for when we have the water balloon wars with other boaters).

Lance's friend Rich and his wife are going to take Reece for me. They adore her and have offered numerous times to take care of her if we need it. So I'm cashing in that chip this weekend. They were more than happy to take her and they want to take her and their dog Wedge out to the park. They recently bought her a toy...a supposedly indestructible leather boomerang chew toy. Reece has already ripped a nice big chunk out of it. But it's the thought that counts, I suppose.

In other news, Lance bought us these magnetic BlueAnt bluetooth devices that attach to the visor in the car. It's a touch-free thing...you don't need to pick up your phone. It will dial on voice command and you can answer the phone by saying "OK." You can even dictate text messages to it, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet. Anyway, mine has a British accent. I didn't like the American voice...she sounded creepy. You can also set it for French, German, Italian or Spanish.

Lance has been using his a lot since he arrived in Minnesota. I don't like talking to him when he's using it because I can hear my voice coming out of the speaker and there's an echo...very distracting. But he just called me in his rental car from Owatonna a short while ago, and I had a conversation with both him and his sister. When I use mine, I can hear everything perfectly, although I imagine that it's more of a pain for the person I'm speaking with. My only issue with it is that I practically have to scream at it for it to accept my voice commands. And I have a naturally loud voice as it is.

Overall, it's so much better than that crappy earpiece we used to use.
