Cheese

It just occurred to me (because I obviously wouldn't know anything about this) that pregnant women cannot eat certain cheeses, and therefore, I have to be very selective about what to buy for this cheese tray I'm bringing to the potluck.

No soft cheeses, right? It's safe as long as it's made with pasteurized cheese.

Just to be on the safe side, can I get suggestions for cheeses to bring? Something aside from the usual cheddar, monterey jack, swiss, etc. etc. that you can get in block form at the local grocery? I'm looking for specialty cheese. I'll probably get a couple different types. I'm thinking brie and camembert are out.

Yes, I googled this. But I'd rather be safe than sorry.

People who are being really conservative would say no soft, unpasteurized cheeses. In reality, the chance of actually getting a bacterial infection from cheese is so slim as to be irrelevant. So it will depend...if she's got a conservative doctor or if she's paranoid, she probably will be avoiding them, but if she's done the research on it, she'll eat any cheese you bring. But you can surely find pasteurized brie, yes, if you really want to bring it?

I know her main paranoia is for bleu cheese (she mentioned that to me shortly after she found out she was pregnant, but didn't really mention anything else). So I suppose if I can find some pasteurized brie somewhere, I will get it.

I think it's really nice of you to take that into consideration for the women at the potluck. Even though I don't feel like it's a real hazard, it's definitely something a lot of pregnant women are concerned about. :)

The pregnant woman is the guest of honor for the potluck, so I would like to make sure that she gets to eat whatever she wants without having to worry about anything. :) I also suspect that she won't be the only pregnant woman there...something's in the water at Paychex.
