Talk about having a sober reminder of what it means to be a military wife. This is the crap that keeps me up at night sometimes. Lance has been talking about this nonstop all evening, which doesn't help me put his mortality out of my mind. Because I have to, or I might go crazy.

Dr. Tully Monster has a hard time watching one of the early scenes in "The Right Stuff" where a test pilot's wife goes into hysterics at the sight of the tall black-suited chaplain walking up the path to the house. It was a scene he knew all about as the son of a Harrier pilot and squadron commander who'd had his own crash landing in the Nevada desert (he ejected safely, something that didn't always happen for Harrier pilots). Until junior high school he'd planned to follow in his father's footsteps, but his nearsightedness made that an impossibility...much to his father's relief...that's why he studied physics instead.
