On Dog Training
Working at home has given me the chance to train Reece to do some new things. She has 2 big fears: squeezing into tight spaces and retrieving toys that bounce on top of her crate. So I've been working with her on these 2 things.
Sometimes, when we're playing, her toy will bounce behind the crate. She will squeeze into that space back there and get it without hesitation, unless it's all the way back in the corner (her crate is in one corner of our living room). She won't go quite that far to get it. I'm trying to get her to overcome her fear. Earlier, I bounced a toy into the corner, and she refused to go back and get it, even though there was enough space for her body to get through without getting stuck. So I took one of her treats and placed it on top of the toy. Well, she finally went all the way back to the corner, but she ate the treat and left the toy there.
AHAHAHA. It's a work in progress, I guess.
Meanwhile, I put another one of her toys on top of her crate. She has a fear of jumping up to get it, probably because of the bars. She doesn't have anywhere secure to place her front paws when she tries to reach something up there. She has, in the past, used me by jumping up on me to where she was the right height, and then leaning over to grab her toy, still using me for support. Today, she didn't do that. She just stood up on her hind legs, put her front paws on the top of the crate, and grabbed the toy herself. She got a treat for that. :)
She's a smart one, alright. Sometimes too smart for her own good.
