Thirteen Hours

At the house at 8 this morning. Home Depot was there by 8:30. There were some issues hooking up the dryer, and Lance discovered that the pipe was busted and had to replace that. What resulted was 5 hours of work and 6 trips to Home Depot.

While he was doing that, I began stripping wallpaper. It's not hard, really...just time consuming. The wallpaper was in two layers. The top layer peeled off easily, but it took me awhile to discover this, and by then, I had already wasted time and wallpaper stripper trying to get it off. If I can get it started, it's really easy to peel off in strips without the use of stripper.

Anyway, I figured things out, stripped off the first layer of paper everywhere in the kitchen area, lightly scored the bottom layer with a paper tiger, saturated it with wallpaper stripper, and then 10 minutes later, it scraped right off with a scraper (we bought a special scraper for this purpose too, and then discovered later that a simple 99 cent plastic scraper works just as well, if not better). Once all the bits of wallpaper were off, I sponged the wall clean to get rid of any excess glue.

Once Lance figured out the dryer issues, he helped me work on the wallpaper. We had hoped to finish stripping the eating area, but we ran out of steam. So we'll have to do that tomorrow and finish the kitchen and we hope to start painting by tomorrow night. We need to have the area behind the fridge done before the fridge gets delivered on Monday.

I'm really amazed at how much we got done today. But I am exhausted. And in pain.

Oh, and I did 2 loads of laundry today. The washer and dryer work fine. I'm just not used to these high-efficiency washers, so it sounds like my clothes are going to blast into orbit when they start the final rinse cycle.

We decided to test the oven this evening. So we stopped at Papa Murphy's and picked up a pizza to bring home and bake. And then Lance realized that we didn't have a pizza cutter, so we had to stop and get one, as well as paper plates and foil to wrap up the leftovers. It would've been easier just to get pizza delivered (and I didn't think Papa Murphy's was THAT good...it's a step up from frozen, but not as good as delivery). Anyway, the oven works fine. So far so good with everything, although we might have some issues with the windows.

Got our first piece of mail today...my library card! Hehe.

Oh, and I need to get a bird feeder. We have wee finches all over our backyard. I don't know what the big fascination is, as we have nothing in our yard for them to eat, to my knowledge. But I want to feed them. During our short breaks today, we liked to watch them pecking around in the grass and mulch and on our stone patio.

Time for bed, methinks. My back is killing me. More of the same tomorrow.

....and now welcome to the joys of home ownership. :)

Yes...it's a blast! And it will NEVER end. Houses are never really done, are they?

Nope. And without regular preventative maintenance will degrade. Its a constant joy/chore.
