Military Spouse Rant

Lance was supposed to be flying today.

So when my cellphone beeped to alert me to a text message, I hoped it was Paula.

Nope. It was Lance.

Jet broke. Flight cancelled.

This means that it'll be at least another week until he comes home. We were looking at a week from Friday at the earliest - 9 days from now.

Now it will be a week after that, at the earliest.

I feel like I can't complain. Other military spouses have it so much worse. They have to deal with longer deployments. Most don't have the luxury of daily communication.

But still, this sucks. I'm running out of ways to kill time, and with the start date of my job probably being set back again, I'm looking at another long week of nothing to do stretching out before me next week.

And Lance is just as miserable as I am.

Okay. I fully expect some "at least he's not in Iraq" comments. Save it. Separations are difficult regardless of the length or location of his deployment, so anyone who feels this way can bite me.

I'm sorry his flight was cancelled. :[ I would be upset about it, too. Is there a chance that he'll get to come home earlier than what's expected now?

Probably not. He has so many flights he has to complete for training. Today was his first flight, and that got cancelled. Tomorrow's flight is still scheduled, but the weather forecast makes it questionable.

At the very earliest, he is coming home two weeks from now, instead of one week. And depending on his luck with the rest of his flights, it could be even longer than that.

I could send you a copy of my Camelot book if your e-mail doesn't mind a 1 MB file. :D

Well, he's been gone 3.5 weeks already...and we're looking at another 2. I honestly don't know what I would do if he ever had to go to combat and would be gone several months at a time. I used to be so independent, but truly, I hate being alone.

And now that I'm starting my job tomorrow, looks like reading will be put on the back burner. I have a shipment coming in from Curled Up With A Good Book that will probably arrive next week, and I still have one more book to review before I can start on those. My heart just isn't in this one right now, even though it is about Shakespeare. I would be interested in reading your Camelot book though. I love that type of stuff.

Ah, OK--I'd missed the part about him being gone so long already. (Though I still won't give you grief about a week. :) ) As for the book, the offer will remain open!

Thank you kindly, good sir. I may wait until I get my laptop because everything has been freezing up my computer lately. I had to restart it twice just to make this comment!

At least he's not in... Vegas, where he could use that extra week to blow his retirement fund ;-)

Sorry to hear that, I hate it when those things get changed last minute!
