So...hot...

It's so hot and miserable right now.

It's in the mid-80's outside right now, and the temperature is slowly dropping. So we have the windows open now...it's 86 in the house, slightly warmer than it is outside.

Anyway, our day today was all about Reece. We drove up to Redmond to go to Marymoor Park, where they have an absolutely huge off-leash dog area. There is a lot of water for dogs to splash around in. We met up with the woman who fostered Reece, and several other adoptive parents were there with the dogs she had fostered, including Reece's biological sister, Annie. It was amazing.

Annie looks so much like Reece. Her coloring is slightly different and she's a bit shaggier (which only reinforces our belief that Reece is part Border Collie), but in the face, they look identical. And their personalities are the same.

In fact, we were recognized by a total stranger because of Reece. We had been waiting at the wrong park entrance for the entire group, and we finally gave up and went in the park. This total stranger came up to me and said, "Is that Reece?" I was a bit taken aback, but I understand now that it was Annie's mommy, who also knew Reece when she was smaller. So through her, we found Reece's foster mommy, and then we spent the rest of our time with them, Reece getting to play once again with her former playmates.

She was indifferent to her sister, however. Sad.

Lance finally got her into the water. She almost seemed to enjoy it...but she wouldn't go in until both Lance and I were in, so I had to roll up my capri pants and I went in with my flip-flops on.

We left the park at 1. It was around 90 degrees at that point and I was starving. They actually had a Subway at the park, but we didn't think it would take long to get home (it took half an hour to get there), so we decided to wait until we got back to our end of town. And then we were stuck in traffic for ages.

I think it took an hour to get home. I dozed some of the way. The heat completely zapped my energy.

We stopped at Subway. Then we stopped at the grocery store so I could get some fixings for dinner tonight (I'm just putting together a tray of finger foods).

I was almost nauseous when I got home...a combination of being so hungry and hot. I very gingerly ate half my BLT sandwich (I got a footlong to save half for tomorrow's lunch), took a quick shower to clean off the grime and sweat from the park, and then slept for a good portion of the afternoon.

Now it's almost time to get dinner ready. We are having our usual smoked sausage, crackers and cheese. But I have a baguette with strawberry cream cheese for Lance and bruschetta topping for me. Getting hungry now...getting a little energy back.

It's so strange how we get used to the weather we have. I acclimated to New York weather and NC mountain weather really fast because it would get so incredibly cold there - snow on Easter and etc ... 70 would feel like summer to me in those areas. Anything hotter would make me sweat.

Now, it's the absolute extreme - we have a regular temperature of 96, 98 - with the heat index making it feel like over 103 degrees. When we have an 80 degree day it actually feels a slight chilly. Now, it doesn't take much at all to make me cold. 80s are perfect for my body now...and I wish it would stay that all year round.
