Be afraid...

Yes, I am finally joining the 21st century and opening a Twitter account.

Apparently, you cannot be taken seriously as a writer unless you tweet.

I think this is patently ridiculous, as I pretty much use Facebook for that same purpose. Now that I have it connected to my mobile, I post status updates much more frequently. Are status updates not like tweets? I really see no difference.

Yet...here I am, succumbing to something that I have lived perfectly well without, thus far. We'll see how this experiment goes. I thought Facebook was stupid when I first joined, but now I'm on it more than Live Journal.

Twitter is a bit of a pain but if you work it you can get lots of traffic directed to your pages. I joined Twitter about 2 weeks ago and my page views are suddenly up this week. You can also use services like Tweet Later, which can help you manage new followers and set up tweets so you don't have to worry about them all day. I don't Tweet every day, either, but I get plenty of followers from when I posted my username in a writer's forum.

Also, this post on Problgger is what convinced me of good ways to use Twitter. That guy has a lot of useful tips about internet writing in general.

There's an application to link Twitter to your Facebook, so I do status updates that way. Seems a tad easier. I also use a program called TweetDeck to manage replies and such, instead of their web interface.
