SONOFABITCH!

I HATE HOME OWNERSHIP...I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT!

We just had a guy come to service our furnace.

Not only do we need to replace it, but IT IS SLOWLY POISONING US WITH CARBON MONOXIDE.

We have no choice. It has to go.

And this explains the frequent headaches and extreme fatigue I've been struggling with lately.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...

$16,000 for new windows last year that absolutely had to replaced. Now this. And until we get it replaced, no heat for us. Great, because it gets down into the 30s at night.

Excuse me while I go hit something. EFFFFFF. MY. LIFE.

(And by the way, a different guy serviced our furnace last year and also said we needed it replaced, but we had hoped to make do another year or two with the current furnace. But the average furnace lifespan is about 20 years and ours is about that old.)

Oh my god - I'm just happy they found it before something horrible happened to you. :(

Me too...but the timing (at least financially) couldn't be worse.

It COULD be worse. Don't ever say it couldn't be or something will happen to prove otherwise!!!!

That's pretty scary. :/

Yikes! But I guess it beats the alternative.

True facts.

I'm sure it's not much of a consolation, but having a new-ish furnance will be terrific for resale. We're closing on a house next week and I can assure you that we were very pleased that our A/C unit was only 3 years old...

[identity profile] prosodic.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, and we planned to replace it. (We probably couldn't sell the house unless we did because the inspector would notice that immediately anyway.)

Just not right now. With our crappy financial situation. That's what irks me most about this, because it happened when we can least afford it.

I'm just glad you three are safe!

And wow -- sixteen grand! EEP! Home repairs are tax deductions though, right?

I don't think we were able to claim the windows on our tax return for some reason. The furnace, we'll be able to.

We had 19 windows to replace - some had to be special ordered because of their shape - so that's why it was almost $16k. And that was actually cheap compared to other companies.
