prosodic1. Reece chewed up Lance's $10 watch. So instead of replacing it with a watch of equal value, Lance picked up a $100 watch. He joked that it must be 10x stronger, but as we both know, Reece has destroyed things that have been deemed indestructible. I warned him that he better keep it out of her reach. Nothing is safe from her jaws of doom.
2. Picked up a new bookcase at Lowe's, which I hope will match the rest of our living room furniture pretty well. I like matching wood tones. It drives me bonkers when you have furniture of varying wood tones in the same room. But of course we do, because we're still making do with the furniture we started out with. I now have more than twice the space for my books than I had before (and the smaller bookcase I have right now is a much lighter wood tone than the majority of our furniture). And the price for the shelf was also very good...$65 for a 72-inch tall. But now I know what next weekend's project will be. Still dreaming of having a personal library. No space for that in this house, but I definitely want wall to wall, floor to ceiling bookshelves someday. That is my fantasy. Clearly, I'm a geek.
3. Finally got to try the salted caramel hot chocolate from Starbucks. Very very tasty. But I ordered a tall and I think they gave me a grande (this has happened the past 2 times I've ordered at Starbucks), and a grande is much too large. It's a very rich hot chocolate. I'm now waiting for a stomachache. And we're due at Rich and Kathy's for chili night in about 45 minutes. I'm excited about going though. Kathy talks about how she loves to soak up my brainwaves, and the feeling is entirely mutual.
4. I got a very nice Facebook mail from one of my co-workers who spent the morning reading http://itinerantwriter.blogspot.com. ; I love getting encouragement like that (and the praise too, if I'm being honest). Of course, it also makes me think that I need to get out more, because exploring is the only thing that really stirs up my passion to write. I kind of miss those days when I couldn't wait to scratch out a poem or a short story or a play. There weren't enough hours in a day to satisfy my hunger for writing. I'm not that hungry anymore. And I really wish I was.
5. I am going to enroll in the Technical Writing course. I'm going to stop thinking about it, bite the damn bullet, and just do it. What have I got to lose? It's professional development, after all. And I need to equip myself as well as I can. Besides, I miss academics.
