The party last night was ok, but I wasn't feeling too great most of the evening. It wasn't as cold as last year, though, or I was at least bundled up better. Not sure which.

The food was amazing. Rich and Kathy brought this absolutely delicious ham. I didn't have any of the turkey. The appetizers were good...there was pita bread with plenty of different spreads. I could've been happy having just that as a meal. Unfortunately. nobody really brought any wine. I had a bottle of Mike's Hard Cranberry Lemonade, and that was the only drink I had all night. Had I known there would be a wine shortage, I would've brought some.

The best part of the night was the Dirty Santa gift exchange. It was my turn to pick out a gift this year...Lance did it for us last year. I was one of the early ones who got to pick a gift. Instead of stealing a gift from someone who had already opened one, I picked the one that I thought was the prettiest from under the tree. It was a hot chocolate maker. You just pour milk and chocolate syrup into it, and it heats it and makes it frothy. I thought it was a pretty damn nice gift. But so did someone else, because it was stolen from me. So I stole a Crock Pot Little Dipper from someone.

What we ended up with...well, I'll have video of that later. Someone stole the Little Dipper from me. Lance was begging me to swipe this goofy hat that had already been stolen once. It's this elf hat that has blinking lights and it shakes (with a bell on the end of it, of course) and plays "Holly Jolly Christmas". But he thought of all the fun potential it could have for either scaring the crap out of Reece or becoming an object of attack. Plus, he wants to wear it to Vegas next week. So I stole it. And because I was the second person to steal it, it was ours for keeps. Hooray. (I would've chosen a more practical gift, but I can't deny Lance such a ridiculous thing if it makes him happy.) We'll probably introduce it to Reece tonight.

Oddly enough, the horribly inappropriate gift we bought last year for the exchange would've fit right in this year. Two of the gifts under the tree were Christmas-themed thongs with a bottle of booze. I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO glad that I didn't pick either of those. I realize that's the risk you take with a Dirty Santa exchange, though.

The gift that we bought for the exchange was one of the last, if not the last, gift to be chosen. Maybe I should put it in a prettier bag next time (I grabbed the only bag I had that it would fit in). The colonel's wife got it, and she seemed ok with it. I was nervous about how our gift would be received, but anything alcohol-related seems to be a relatively surefire hit with this group. (Our gift wasn't alcoholic, but had to have alcohol added to it).

After the exchange, the party was pretty much over. I was feeling more or less miserable at that point, but I waited with Kathy while Lance and Rich and the rest of the clean-up crew tore things down and cleaned things up. I would've helped them with that, but considering how I was feeling (and Kathy wasn't feeling particularly well either), I stayed with her and we took turns holding her son and playing with him to try and keep him occupied. It seemed to take forever for them to finish up. At 11, we were finally able to leave.

I wanted nothing more than to collapse once we got home, but Reece was all energy, having been pent up in the crate all evening. So Lance and I had to get her calmed down first. I think we went to bed sometime around midnight or shortly thereafter, but I took a Nyquil, so I was pretty much knocked out. I slept long and deeply, and Reece never got up during the night. At 7:30 or so this morning, she jumped into bed with us, but she couldn't quite rouse me out of the fog I was in. Lance finally got up with her shortly after 8, and let me sleep in peace by myself. I got up at 9, although I could've easily been in bed all morning. I was really groggy.

But there are things to do today. We're postponing our grocery trip until tomorrow. We'll take Reece to see Santa Claus at Petsmart today. I have some house cleaning to do and I need to work on my online class and put together a grocery list. I'm still really tired though...bone weary. But I'll get in the shower here in a bit and hopefully it will revive me somewhat and I can start my day. This nasty cold is really wiping me out, though.
