Lance and I went to Home Depot and Lowe's today. Since we're expecting our new windows within the next couple of weeks, we need to have new window treatments as well. I loathe vinyl blinds, which is what we had in every window of this house when we moved in, with the exception of the sliding door (vertical blinds, which I also loathe) and cellular shades in the living room.

Lance wants uniformity at the front of the house. I'm going to get Roman shades for the kitchen and hallway windows. The other front window, which is in the office, is really wide, so I'm not entirely sure how a Roman shade would look. I think that's a look better suited to narrow windows. But I think if we find a shade in a different style but the same color, that should be sufficient. The majority of our front windows are obscured by shrubbery anyway.

For the living room, I want to stick with the cellular shades. These are just old and dingy. And I think I want one with a bigger pleat.

I liked the selection at Home Depot better than Lowe's, so I think we'll just do that. We're not getting custom shades (except for the cellular ones, because I didn't see any ready-made ones there). We're buying ready-mades and having them cut to size.

While we were in Home Depot, Farlis called, wanting to get together with the dogs for a walk this afternoon.

We got out of Lowe's at noon, and we were near the Auburn airport. Lance wanted to watch the planes land. So we stopped at Dairy Queen for lunch, which has a large front window facing the airport. We usually only stop at DQ for ice cream, so sometimes I forget how good their food is. I got a fish sandwich combo with onion rings. Got a pumpkin pie blizzard for dessert, but I was kind of disappointed. I would much rather just have a slice of pumpkin pie.

So today, which seemed like it would be pretty quiet and boring, wasn't too bad. And it's still only 1. I am working on stuff around the house (laundry, cleaning, etc.). Lance has to do some stuff around the yard.

I'm waiting for Farlis to call me back. I offered to meet her at 2 for our walk. She just needs to call back and confirm that 2 is a good time.

We've been having some issues getting Reece to go into her crate. It wasn't even a problem until yesterday. Now, suddenly, she's resistant to it. I just hope this trend doesn't continue into the week. I think Lance will be leaving later than me, since I'm on flex, so he'll be dealing with it. Crating her has been so easy over the past few months or so...she'll sometimes get into the crate even before I put her kong in it. But since yesterday, she just sits outside the crate, clearly wanting the kong, but not wanting to get in. What gives?

In other news, I'm about to do another amazon.com order. I want to pick up George Winston's Autumn CD. Thought it would be perfect background music for Thanksgiving (along with his December CD). I want to pick up a couple of my favorite Christmas movies on DVD too while I'm at it.

George Winston is giving a concert here in April and I desperately want to go. I'm such a huge fan of his music. It's so soul-soothing and peaceful. Don't think Lance would be into it, though. But I wouldn't be opposed to going by myself. It's not like it'll be a rock concert with loud, screaming throngs and a mosh pit. It's piano music, after all.

Just put in a big holiday order over at amazon.com:

2 CDs:

Autumn - George Winston
Wintersong - Sarah McLachlan

3 movies:

White Christmas (already have this on VHS, but love it so much I need it on DVD)
Miracle on 34th Street (1947 version with Natalie Wood)
A Christmas Carol (1984 version with George C. Scott)

So now I should be all set for Christmas.

Considering the major suck that comes with not getting any time off over the holidays, I need to load up on feel-good movies and music. Improving the quality of my life when I'm off work will make things more bearable.

Oh, and I have a big stack of unread books too, which always makes me happy. Three more just arrived from my editor:

Cassandra and Jane - Jill Pittkeathley
Pemberley Shades - D.A. Bonavia-Hunt
The Map Thief - Heather Terrell

Now...all we have to do is get the fireplace in working order, and I can happily spend my weekends in front of a fire with some wine (or tea) and some good reads.
