Friendship

Lance, Reece and I went over to Rich and Kathy's for dinner last night.

As always, a fun time was had by all. Although Reece tends to get a little overexcited at their house. But there is a lot of stimulation there, between Beck and Wedge and their 2 cats.

Anyway, while we were sitting down to our bowls of chili, Kathy asked if I needed her to bring any more food for Thanksgiving. I was telling everyone about how little time I'll be getting off over the holidays. It seemed that she was offering to take Thanksgiving dinner off my shoulders entirely, but I really want to cook this year. I love cooking for people. I love entertaining.

But she said she is stuffing queen, so I asked her to bring stuffing in addition to the apple pie she already offered to bring. And I said that I think I'll just cook a turkey breast instead of a whole turkey. Everyone agreed that it was a great idea. I guess we all prefer the white meat anyway. I think I can handle everything else...and I told her that I would be ordering a pumpkin pie. Yeah, I don't generally take shortcuts for holiday dinners, but if I can get a homemade pie that I don't have to actually make myself, that's still okay. And I also don't do homemade rolls. I don't have that kind of time, nor do I have a warm spot for the dough to rise.

After dinner, Rich demonstrated the Wii Fit to us, and he and Lance did some slalom on it. Kathy sliced up some pecan pie for dessert. And we just sat around and talked about everything. I just love how she's on the same wavelength as me when it comes to so many different things.

Reece started getting hungry (she tried to eat Wedge's food) and Beck was clearly winding down for bed, so we decided to call it a night. But Kathy mentioned that we needed to get together just for a girls' outing, and I mentioned that Waxen Art was having a $5 candle special this weekend - you can make any candle up to $20 and get a free candle plate for only $5. So we made a date this afternoon: lunch at Panera followed by candlemaking. I just have to call ahead and make reservations for us (at the candle place, not at Panera).

I fell asleep on the sofa after we got home. Reece curled up at my feet and used my legs as a pillow. I finally woke up - Lance was in the middle of watching some movie - and we all went to bed. Other than Reece waking us up in the middle of the night barking and howling at some teenagers that were being a bit loud outside, we slept pretty well. That extra hour was really nice. At 6:30 this morning, it was just getting light out (weird), and she jumped into bed with us and we all snuggled together for an hour and a half. Lance watched a little television and Reece and I went back to sleep for awhile.

So I feel pretty well-rested and ready for the day. I'm excited to get together with Kathy - just the two of us - and have a little fun today. I just need to get some of my chores done around the house.

And I think we'll invite them over to our place next weekend. I want to make some Pastitsio (which is basically like a Greek lasagna, made with macaroni).

The weather was pretty crappy today, so it was the perfect day for the outing that Kathy and I had planned.

I picked her up and we went down to Kent Station. Panera for lunch. I had the half sandwich and soup combo - their new tomato and mozzarella panini with creamy tomato soup. Very very good. Warm, comforting and filling.

After that, we went to Waxen Art to make candles. We each made 2 candles. Kathy plans to keep both of hers. I'm giving one as a gift and I'm keeping one for myself. It only cost $10 + tax to make both those candles. Amazing. But it was a weekend special, and they were extremely crowded today too.

I'm going to pick up our candles tomorrow.

Once the candle-making was complete, we browsed around a bit. We bought stuff at Bath & Body Works. I got a couple of essential oils (one to encourage sleep - which I'll keep by the bed, and one to encourage calm - which I am taking to work), and a free pumpkin candle.

We stopped by See's Candies (they always give free samples). They were giving samples of their delicious Bordeaux chocolates, which are dark chocolate with brown sugar cream. I bought a couple of chocolate and marshmallow jack o'lanterns on clearance. Kathy got some candy to take home.

All in all, it's been a pretty good day. I enjoyed my time out, and Kathy did too. And I feel much less anxious about tomorrow. I always get anxious on Mondays, but I feel pretty calm and centered right now. Lance and I need to get out tonight to look for our polling location (there is some disparity between Mapquest, Google, etc. as to where it is). So we'll probably go for a short drive here in a bit. Then I think a hot shower and a book are in order.
