Snowed In

Woke up after a pretty nice sleep last night and turned on the news to see how bad things got. We didn't lose power, so that's something to certainly be thankful for, but we have several inches of snow and a crust of ice on top of that. Guess we had some freezing rain at some point, but that was probably after we went to bed.

The roads are a disaster though. I'm sure the arterials will be cleaned up today at some point, but there is no reason for us to go out anyway.

I'm just sitting here in a quiet room, looking at the snow outside, and drinking some hot caramel cider and eating my apple streusel muffins. Life is good right now. I have a sleepy dog curled up beside me. And we have absolutely no plans for today except hanging out.

It's snowing again.

And Lance was out shoveling when it started. So he stopped. What's the point when it's going to accumulate again anyway?

And I'm about 90% sure I won't be able to go to work tomorrow, even if I wanted to. Our across the street neighbor attempted to leave today, backed out of his driveway, and promptly got stuck. After sitting in the street spinning his wheels for several minutes, he gave up. He managed somehow to get his car parked on the curb. I'm sure that required some assistance. It seems he was unable to even get back in his driveway.

So yeah...I'm NOT going through that tomorrow. Screw it. I haven't seen one single car try to drive down this road all day except for that. Our street appears to be impassable. I'm not holding my breath that our trash will get picked up tomorrow either. For the second Monday in a row. Which makes me wonder why we're paying property taxes when there are basic services we're not even getting, like snow/ice removal on our streets and trash pickup.

And it keeps falling...and falling...

I think we'll be having a white Christmas. Our second Christmas in Seattle, and our 2nd white Christmas in Seattle. Unprecedented, since snow is actually supposed to be pretty rare here. You wouldn't be able to tell that by looking outside right now, though. It looks like Minnesota or New England or something.

We're supposed to be getting our new microwave tomorrow, but obviously we won't be able to pick it up. Damn. I had really been looking forward to getting rid of our 20 year old dinosaur. But I've already lived with this stupid microwave for a year, so what's a few more days?

Ok...so most of the flights out of Sea-Tac are canceled. Some travelers are looking at spending their 2nd night there. All nearby hotels are booked, etc.

And yet, the news footage of this event (KOMO 4) showed a wandering caroling group at the airport (dressed in Victorian costume) singing "I'll Be Home for Christmas."

If I were one of those stranded passengers, I would want to punch them. But maybe that's just me.
