It's snowing. Of course, I knew this was in the forecast, but didn't think about it last night.

Helped make for a rough start this morning.

Lance has his promotion test today, and has to be down at McChord by 7:30. He wanted to leave here by 6.

He slept in the guest room last night, since he was getting up early, and set his alarm for 5:00. When 5:00 came, he turned off the alarm and promptly fell asleep again. When he woke up, it was 5:40. (If I had been there, I would've gotten him up immediately. I don't linger in bed after the alarm goes off, for just that reason.)

He came into our bedroom at 5:55 to tell me that he was running late and that it snowed overnight. He grabbed all his stuff to go get in the shower.

I turned off my alarm, which was set for 6, quickly made the bed, threw on a coat and shoes, and went out and scraped off his truck windows to save him some time. I'm really worried about him getting there on time. He only gets one shot at this test each year...he can't afford these mis-steps. And this year especially, it would be really good if he made it.

So hopefully he's making good time on his way down there right now. I suppose he'll text me and let me know.

And of course, this threw off my getting ready for work routine. So I feel a bit discombobulated this morning. And so does the dog.

It's been a super difficult week. Today *might* get a little easier, but today and tomorrow are for getting caught up on the projects I didn't have time to do Monday through Wednesday. I'm tired of always being behind on things. I can never quite get caught up. There is only so much I can control in an 8 hour day, and I can only do the best that I can do.

At least it's almost the weekend.

But then Lance leaves on Sunday. After I drop him off, I'll head into Seattle to meet my friend Lisa. I'm driving to her place, and we're taking the bus downtown to hang out at the market for awhile. And those are my big weekend plans.

Lance made it to his test on time, and it's finished. Now we have to wait until June to find out if he gets promoted. Fingers crossed.

One of his best friends called him today. By happy coincidence, he and his wife will be vacationing in Vegas next week while Lance is there. So they're going to get together for dinner.

Speaking of vacations, I still need one. Even if it's for a weekend, I don't care. I desperately need a change of scenery.

It's been an interesting day. First, the snow. Then the sun was out and very bright and everything melted. But I'm sure it'll ice over tonight, which will make the commute interesting in the morning.

Right after lunch, I was sitting at my desk and my cellphone started ringing. I noticed the area code (Columbus), and recognized that it was my stepdad's cell number. Given the odd time of day for him to be calling, I immediately panicked. The past has shown me that anytime family calls you at unusual times of the day or night, it's typically not good news.

So I answered the phone, my heart pounding in my throat, and he asked me if I was at work. I responded in the affirmative, so he said, "Ok. Just wanted to tell you that I love you and miss you. Goodbye." And he hung up. But I couldn't let it go at that. What if something really was wrong and he was just waiting for me to get home before he told me? So I went into a conference room and called him back. He reassured me that everything was fine. He just got this feeling that I was having a bad week (and yes, I am, but that's pretty much every week, this one is just especially bad) and he planned to leave me a voicemail just to say that he missed me. But I answered instead. I told him I would call him when I got home...that I had to tell him about everything that's been going on.

The rest of the afternoon dragged for eons, but I finally got home and called him. Now he and my mother are up to speed on everything.

Apropos of nothing, but Lance has been quite the shutterbug the past couple of days, with young Queen Reece as his subject. Which means I'll have some Reece picspam coming up here soon, whenever I get the itch to upload the pics from my camera. The pictures are very cute. But then again, I'm particularly biased when it comes to my furry girl. :)

Oh, and I'm currently putting together a care package for my niece. I found this adorable flop-eared stuffed bunny at Target, so it's going to be an Easter themed care package like the one I sent last year. Not sure about getting her clothes, since I have no idea what size she wears and if I get it wrong, it'll be difficult for them to return anything, considering their geographical location. So I might just play it safe and stick with toys and games. And maybe a present for the little one on the way. And by the way, my new niece has a name picked out for her. I won't say what it is just yet, in case Mommy and Daddy change their minds, but I really like it. It's very cute.
