Bone White

Not an attractive name, but that is the color going up on our walls. It's white with a brownish tinge...just the hint of brown I was looking for, apparently.

I picked up a sample of it last night. Our 4th sample for this room. Came home and immediately painted some streaks of it on the wall in various spots. It was drying too dark. I thought for sure I had failed again at finding a color.

Then Lance brought in a little primer and primed a few spots on the wall. Once that dried, he painted some of the Bone White over that. Totally different color, and much truer to the color chip we picked up a few days back.

I can't believe primer makes that much difference. Unfortunately, it also makes more work for Lance. Now he'll have to prime everything before we paint. But he thinks we can maybe get by with just one coat of paint, so it may not be extra work for him after all. We will see. Plus, if we do one coat, we can buy less paint. I was going to go with 5 gallons (if we did 2 coats), but now I'm not so sure.

Since we still had those other paint samples, we also tried them over primer. They were also different from when we first tried them, but still not the right color for our wall. The Castle Stone came out gold when we first tried it. It still had a yellow cast when we put it over primer. The Weathered Sandstone was pink when we first tried it. Now it's peach. We had a 3rd color, but it wasn't labeled, so I didn't bother with it. Because if we tried it and liked it, I would have no idea what color it was, so I wouldn't be able to order it anyway.

So...Bone White it is. And you know, I like it. It's similar to the color we already have, but just a smidge darker. And eventually, Lance wants to stain all the trim a darker color, which I think will look really good with this new wall color.

Huzzah! After 4 and a 1/2 months of trial and (constant) error, we finally have a paint color for our hallway/entryway and living room! Let the painting begin!
