The Young Victoria
Dec. 16th, 2009 10:37 pmThe entire night was quite an adventure.
We were stuck in traffic. Worse than I expected. I freaked out and didn't think we'd make it on time. But miraculously, the traffic moved and we made it to the appropriate exit. I found Pacific Place, but finding the parking garage was difficult. It wasn't well marked. I missed it and I had to drive down a bunch of one-way streets to try to get back to where we started. I saw a parking garage right by Pacific Place, and pulled in, but it wasn't the right parking garage. Actually, I ended up paying $3 more, but my nerves were so frazzled by that point that I didn't care.
On top of that, while I was trying to find parking, I almost got into an accident. I was in the far right lane, going straight. The guy to the left of me apparently decided that he needed to turn right. If I hadn't slammed on my brakes, he would've side-swiped us.
Anyway...so we found parking. Then we had to walk to Pacific Place. I lost my bearings for a minute and we walked the wrong way, but then I figured out where we needed to go.
As we were walking, some creep came walking up beside me and kept his pace with us. He was looking directly at me, and I could see him out of the corner of my eye, but I looked ahead and didn't acknowledge him. Finally he said, "can I walk next to you for a minute?" I said a very assertive "NO!" and he said, "That's cool." But instead of slowing down and leaving, he continued to walk with us. So I found the nearest entrance to anywhere and cut him off and we found ourselves in some furniture store. Luckily, the store was part of Pacific Place, so we made our way to the movie theater from there.
We got there right at 6:45, which was the latest we were supposed to check in. They checked my name off the list, and since we hadn't had dinner, we each ordered a pizza and drink combo at the concession stand. The movie theater was full when we got there. Only the first 2 rows had seats together, so we had to sit in the 2nd row. It wasn't too bad, though.
The movie was wonderful. It's at times funny, touching, and heart-stoppingly dramatic. Everyone applauded at the end. There are, as you would imagine, some annoyances with a crowded cinema, and there was some woman behind us that kept incessantly questioning her companion about what was going on. It was extremely irritating.
After the film, we had a bit of a problem finding the freeway, but we finally got there and made it home without any further incident.
If I have to go downtown again, I'm just going to take the light rail. All the stress and frazzled nerves that came with driving put a bit of a damper on things, but at least I tried to laugh off my nervousness and stress.
Overall, we had a good time. I highly recommend the movie. Emily Blunt is a wonderful Queen Victoria. She's funny and bold and sassy. And Prince Albert...*sigh* Yeah, he's pretty hot and he's very charming and funny too.
(Dude, I'm tired. I mis-typed that as Arthur originally, instead of Albert.)
