YAY! It finally feels like summer! Woot!

We ran our usual Saturday errands. Went to Schinnen this morning...it took longer on account of Lance needing to take care of some stuff with the truck. They did "100% inspections" this morning at the gate (total BS...we saw 4 cars go through without inspection both before and during ours) and when the security guard opened up Lance's hood, the insulation was badly torn up and stuffed down into the engine. The marder strikes again! Lance had the anti-marder device installed under the hood, but he never figured out how to hook it up, so we had to stop by the auto repair shop to get that done.

I've mentioned marders before, but just to refresh your memory:

These little bastards crawl up into your engine and tear things up and chew through wires and belts. They can do some SERIOUS and very expensive damage. I've had one in my car too, but the most it did was claw at the insulation.

They might look cute, but they're evil little terrors! I actually think that's what we have living in our attic, and not a mouse.

Anyway, Lance also had to order tires for the truck, and there was only one employee at the desk (quelle surprise!), so he had to wait at least half an hour until he could order them. I sat out in the truck and waited all that time. I wish I had had a book to read.

Grocery shopping went quickly, since I only needed to get us food through Thursday (we'll do another shopping trip the day after our cruise)...we got home and Lance started mowing the lawn while I put the groceries away. I thought I was going to spend most of the afternoon writing, but the front porch/front door was such a horrible mess that I decided to clean that up first. It was dirty and getting covered in spiderwebs. So I went outside armed with rubber gloves, rags, window cleaner, a step stool, Raid, and a broom. I killed I don't know how many spiders that were lurking around the front door...a bunch of little whitish ones. I cleaned the glass and around the glass. I sprayed Raid around the perimeter of the front porch. It's getting to be that time of year again when I commence with the Spider Wars...they're starting to take over the doors and windows outside again.

Our next house will not have excessive amounts of shrubbery. It just encourages them to hang out near the entrances to the house.

And then as I was cleaning up from that, I noticed at least 4 spiders lurking in a corner underneath our stairs (What? Were they having a party?). So out came the Raid again, and the spiders scattered, and I was there to grab them as they crawled out from the hard to reach places (with Kleenex of course).

I'm done with spiders. So done with them. I have never seen so many of them inside the house or right outside...this house is just infested with them.

Anyway, I was finally able to get some writing done. I'm more than half finished with my Stralsund travel guide, although I'm finding it to be a bit of a problem. I also started on the Valkenburg article but I'm not terribly pleased with it so far. I just want to get down all the information and then I'll worry about rearranging and re-writing and editing and tweaking.

I just threw together a simple dinner for Lance and I - our usual cold smoked sausage plate with cheese, crackers, Pillsbury French loaf, and garlic herb cream cheese. I have some sweet and sour raspberry sauce that I drizzled over my sausage, and it was delicious! I've been trying to find a use for it (besides mixing it with balsamic vinegar and olive oil and putting it on chicken, blue cheese and spinach salad). Ruth gave it to me for my birthday and I need to use it up before we leave here...I can't take open bottles of stuff home with me. Tomorrow, we're grilling hamburgers...Lance's idea. I'm trying to keep our meals to things that we can eat in one sitting (we have leftovers from tonight, but I love eating cold sausage and cheese for lunch). I don't want leftovers when we leave on Friday. I have a Stouffer's lasagna in the freezer for later on in the week, and I still have one grilled fish fillet for me and a chicken cordon bleu for Lance.

I still need to try and get a hold of my mom today...although I suppose it's possible that she's visiting Grandma. I just talked to Grandma last night, so I don't really feel the need to call there today. I tried to call my mom earlier and got the machine, so I'll try again here in a bit. I also need to do a lot of reading. I'm trying to finish up this novel that I just started...I am not taking it with me on the cruise, and it's a novel that I'm reviewing, so I have to read it.
