Gdansk and Tallinn:

http://itinerantwriter.blogspot.com/2007/08/baltic-cruise-days-4-5-gdansk-and.html

I think I love my pictures of Gdansk the most, probably because the majority of them weren't taken from a bus window. And Gdansk...well, it's just unbelievable. The Old Town is, anyway. I don't think it's possible to take a bad picture there.

And if you look at the pictures I took, and see the one I photographed of a funny billboard in Tallinn...well, I have to say that that is actually one of my favorite photos. I have this funny habit of looking up instead of at eye-level when I am sightseeing, and I see things that lots of people miss. This was one of those things. We were on the bus at the time, driving through a less than interesting, but ultramodern shopping district, and it caught my eye.

I have tons of St. Petersburg photos. So I need to start going through those this afternoon.

ETA (4:07 PM): I apparently broke Blogger. HAHA. Anyway, it isn't working at the moment. I was in the middle of typing up my Russia trip report, but I think most of it was saved anyway, so no worries.

Anyway...

I didn't do as much damage on the cruise as I thought. I only gained 2 pounds, which mystifies me entirely, because I didn't exercise much and we had dessert at least twice a day and ate mostly at the 24 hour buffet (where they give you serving platters to eat from instead of plates). They had an ice cream parlor on our deck...you had to pay extra for it, but it was comparable to what you would pay at Baskin-Robbins, so we didn't complain much. We ate dessert there 3 times. Mostly, I just had cookies. The desserts on the buffet, while beautiful, really weren't very tasty, but the cookies were very good.

In other news, I have to do something about the bathtub/shower drainage issue. I took a bath this morning after my workout, and it backed up into the shower again, bringing up all kinds of nasty sludge and a horrible stench with it. I have Drano, so I'm going to pour that down the drain and see if that helps clean out some of the gunk. I suppose if that doesn't help, we'll have to contact the landlord. Or I can just stop taking baths, but I don't want to do that. We've just had the landlord and his family around here enough lately (they were working here both in and outside of the house while we were gone), and I want to try and fix this problem myself if I can.

Totally unrelated to anything, but just something I find disturbing...my mom found out last week that someone she used to work with, a guy that was everybody's friend, was killed at work in a trash compactor. Can you imagine? He apparently fell in and his co-workers heard his screams, but by the time they got there, it was too late. What a HORRIFYING way to die. I saw that happen in a soap opera, and it doesn't seem like anything that could ever happen in reality, so horrible it is to imagine. My mom, understandably, was very shaken up by it. Just hearing about it gives me the willies.
