Oct. 26th, 2007 09:33 amLance and I are going out to Mt. Rainier here in a bit, but I thought I would pop in from the Family Support Center here at McChord.
Our house was inspected yesterday. It passed with flying colors, except for the furnace not functioning (and it's under warranty) and a minor issue with the dishwasher. Otherwise, no major issues, which we expected, but is still a relief to hear.
So today we actually have some free time, and we could go into downtown Seattle, but the mountain beckons us. We saw it a couple of days ago when it was clear (you can't see it at all from here if it's cloudy or hazy), and it's an amazing sight. So we'll be going off shortly to explore that.
Not sure what's on the agenda for this weekend, but we don't particularly have much house-related stuff to do. We need to get our agent's cellphone back to him, since he loaned it to us on Monday (he has at least two, so it wasn't a hardship on him). There was discussion of going to the cinema since it's been ages since we've been to one. Not sure if we'll make it to Seattle this trip, but we have plenty of time for that later.
We've been pricing out appliances that we need for the house and I already found an adorable table that would look really cute in the kitchen. It is only $200 for the table and four chairs, here at the base exchange, and it's free from sales tax.
(By the way, the base exchange here is MASSIVE...and not that it should surprise anyone, but it has a Starbucks.)
Our temporary quarters at the base are nice...it's like a one bedroom apartment with a full kitchen, washer/dryer, etc. The first night, they didn't have the room we reserved, so we were upgraded to the senior officer quarters...these are the temporary lodgings for colonels and generals. We felt like we were getting away with something. HAHA. But honestly, their quarters aren't that much nicer than the ones we're staying in now.
