Life and Stuff
Nov. 20th, 2007 11:23 amFor the past several weeks, my mood has alternated between desperation to get out of here and sadness over leaving my friends. Fortunately, life offered a little levity today.
As I was coming home from spinning class, there was a frantic looking man waving at me from the side of the road. I stopped, because his cows were loose and they were EVERYWHERE...and several of them were about to run right out into traffic. This poor farmer, who looked rather distressed, was trying to corral them into a field, but they weren't having it. Just when he thought he'd cleared the road, three more cows came bounding out in front of my car.
I felt sorry for this man and his predicament, but as I watched this whole scene unfolding, I sat there screaming with laughter. This is definitely not something I'm going to see in Seattle. I've had to pull off the road for herds of sheep before, but this is the first time for cows. I only wish I had had my camera.
Anyway, that was a nice bit of humor for an otherwise busy day. I woke up early this morning and was unable to get back to sleep, so I got out of bed around 5:30 or so. Unfortunately, my stirring woke up Lance (despite my best efforts to be quiet), and he was up and sitting with me in the living room by 6. By then I had checked my email, and got yet another job rejection. Whatever...I was too tired to even care. I know I'll get a job eventually, and that wasn't a job that particularly appealed to me anyway.
I dropped Lance off at work and ran a few errands...had to hang up notices for the remainder of our household stuff that we're selling. Then I went to the gym and did weights and then spinning and then stopped at the NATEX for some groceries.
Spinning class was interesting. One of the ladies in the class just got back from Vicenza, Nove, and Venice. She said that she and her travel companions brought along my Nove article from Stars & Stripes as a guide...well, they went into one of the pottery shops that I mentioned in the article (and there was a picture of the shop owner that was printed with it) and the shop owner saw his photo in my article and got very very excited! HAHA. I love it!
The Crap-Mobile (I refuse to even call it Gertie now...Gertie is dead to me) is an annoyance to drive now, because the antenna broke off and I can't get in any radio stations anymore...except the Canadian Forces station...sometimes. I am so irritated. Music was the only thing keeping me from having to listen to the hideous sound coming from the exhaust.
Tonight is my final book club. I'm bringing veggie dip, breadsticks, baby carrots and cucumber slices. I dug out my "Reading is Sexy" t-shirt from my wardrobe to wear tonight. We're discussing Water for Elephants, which was an amazing book, and even more so because I really expected to find it boring, and was just blown away by how good it was.
Speaking of books, I finished Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress last night. I just found it very strange and it's not one that I would recommend.
Anyway, I have another job to apply for (not one that really interests me either, but I'm at the point where I just *need* to find a job and the need for employment takes precedence over my wanting to actually do something that I find enjoyable, challenging and fulfilling). I will continue the job search today. We'll be okay for a few months without me working, but this house is putting us in a terrifying amount of debt, so I feel the urgency to find something ASAP.
