Back Online...Hooray!
Dec. 27th, 2007 08:32 pmI've missed you all. If anything really earth-shattering happened over the past week, PLEASE tell me in comments.
Anyway, things have been a bit crazy here. Our internet was finally hooked up as of about an hour ago. It took SEVEN HOURS this past weekend to get DirecTV hooked up. And all of the rooms are now functional in this house, although they are all still messy.
Lance's office party was pretty fun, except it was out in the wilderness (the base campgrounds) in an unheated building, so we had a fire in each fireplace and I had to wear my coat. But I met and mingled with several of the wives and it's a good group. I have an invitation to go workout at the Y. The food was good...we had a fried turkey, ham, and all the fixings.
I went grocery shopping over the weekend - alone, since Lance was with the DirecTV guy. The plan was that we would drive down to McChord and shop at the commissary, but that wasn't possible. So I drove to the nearby store and did the shopping myself, and the prices were ridiculously expensive and I nearly wanted to cry when I saw how much a week's worth of groceries cost (at least twice what we paid at Schinnen for comparable items). But the cashier was talking to me and found out that I'm new in town and gave me her number, in case I needed a friend. I thought that was very sweet.
Christmas Eve - I wanted to stay in all day, but we ended up running out for some errands. Lance wanted fudge, so we had to go to the store to get ingredients for that and we had to return some stuff at Target anyway. Once we got home, we stayed in and I made a pot of pepperoni pizza chili (a recipe I came across in a supplemental that came with one of my magazines) and some breadsticks, and we watched White Christmas.
Christmas Day - Four Home Depot gift cards. Heh. And it snowed. But only a dusting. Still, a white Christmas is very rare in Seattle. We spent most of the day watching movies. I made ham, mashed potatoes, brown sugar glazed carrots, and butterflake rolls for dinner.
Yesterday - unpacking. Lance worked on getting the office in some semblance of order. I worked on the guest room. Now we can technically have people over to stay the night, but I would be horrified for anyone to see the house in its current state.
Today - Lance had a doctor appointment, so had to run down to McChord. I worked out for the first time in weeks, and it felt great. And then I watched Food Network all morning and into the afternoon. The Comcast guy came shortly after 2 and then we ran to Staples and to the grocery store and then Lance commenced to getting internet set up, which took a long time.
Tomorrow - we start the process of getting me a car. I can't work until I have transportation. Also, need to apply for more jobs.
I missed the internets. At least now we can feel more settled in.
