I always hated this holiday growing up. I was a late bloomer when it came to finding love. I had no boyfriends in high school...not even anything in the way of dates (unless you count my gay boyfriend who posed as my date at many a school dance). Valentine's Day was always hideous to me. A day when everyone flaunted their boyfriends or girlfriends in my face. A day when friends sent cookie grams to each other, and I never EVER got one...EVER. So I felt like a loser both in the love and the friendship department.
Even now, I don't really go all out. Lance and I have never done anything particularly special to celebrate the holiday. We might exchange little, inexpensive trifles, and a card...maybe go to dinner and watch a movie. But it's not much different than our usual date nights. And we like it that way.
Today, I am filled with hope. For reasons that have nothing to do with the holiday. And it's still quite springlike outside, so I'm looking forward to getting out and putting together our dinner for tonight. But real life interferes too...I have to stop and buy more wallpaper stripper before I go and get all the makings for our dinner.
