Time to Go
May. 9th, 2008 05:44 amI leave Rochester today, and I could not be happier about it.
We had a graduation ceremony in class yesterday. We received diplomas, which are also good for college credit for a basic accounting class. We also received a class photo, which we had taken sometime last week.
The final, however, still looms over us. But it's open book, so aside from getting the calculations correct on the math problems, everything else is found in our course materials.
I don't anticipate any problems. After all, I have such high scores on my quizzes and midterms.
Anyway, last night we went to Bugaboo Creek Steakhouse for dinner...well, most of us did. Some people chose not to. It was typical steakhouse food...nothing particularly special. But there were animal heads on the wall that talked (a bison head was on the wall near our table and he talked about every 20 minutes or so...really bizarre). There was a talking fish. I asked the waitress if the ferocious looking bear on the fireplace mantle was going to come to life, and she told me that it growls occasionally.
*shakes head*
I had salmon, mashed potatoes and sauteed mushrooms for dinner, and the potatoes were especially good. As we were settling the bill (I didn't pay...one of my classmates insisted on paying for me because I had him laughing so hard in class on Wednesday), the waitstaff came out with 2 mini chocolate cakes and sang happy birthday to me and Jessica. And my birthday isn't even until a month from now and Jessica's birthday was in March.
It was a joke from the guy at the head of the table. I guess he thought it was funny. I wasn't amused. I didn't want dessert (and nobody else wanted it). I hate going to restaurants on my actual birthday and being sung to. And it's not even close to my birthday. So WTF? I don't really know his motives for doing it, honestly. But he got Jessica's cake, so whatever. The thing with Bugaboo Creek is that they have a moose puppet they stick in your face while they're singing to you and you're supposed to kiss it. I wouldn't kiss it, but Brandon, who was sitting next to me, grabbed it and kissed it for me. HAHA.
A nice time overall, but a very strange ending.
I got back to my room around 8:30 or so and finished packing. I really have not acquired that much stuff since I got here, but I had a hard time getting everything in my luggage. I even bought a space bag. I was just trying to squish everything in and include my giant Paychex binder in my suitcase so I wouldn't have to take back the ginormous Paychex duffel bag that we got at school. But I think I managed to squeeze everything in.
We're all meeting in the lobby at 6:30 to eat breakfast, turn in our room key cards, and load our luggage in the appropriate vehicle to get to the airport. Then we will drive to the corporate office together to take our exam. When we finish, we're supposed to go downstairs to the cafeteria and wait for the rest of our party (and collect the box lunch that Paychex is giving us for the road). Once everyone in our group is done, we can head out. Jessica and I are on the same flight to Detroit, and we are in the car with Nick from DC, who has the last flight out. We are the last 3 to leave Rochester, so I'm trying to think of a little diversion for us to do this afternoon so we don't have to spend 5 hours at the airport before we fly out.
News from home - Lance found another dog at the Humane Society of Skagit Valley. She is also a lab mix, 2 months old, and not even named, which is perfect, because we've had a name picked out for 3 years. We'll see what happens, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
He also leaves for OKC again on Tuesday, but is supposed to be gone only until Saturday. I hope no longer than that. This is ridiculous. We're like 2 ships passing in the night, never being able to spend more than a couple days together at any given time.
In the completely random department - I know that I blush bright scarlet when I'm laughing hard enough, but do people really have to point it out and tease me about it? I'm already self conscious enough about it as it is, and when people tease me about it, it just makes me turn even more red. I'll be forever known as "Red Lobster" among this class, and that was what the instructor said to me before she handed me my diploma. It's embarrassing.
