May. 24th, 2008 10:49 pmChecking our post office box today, we received a post card that alerted us to the fact that it's National Dog Bite Awareness Week or some such thing.
I laughed so hard I nearly collapsed in the parking lot.
If you looked at my arms right now, you'd know why. I'm a living chew toy for my dog.
Anyway, today was really nice. The weather was absolute perfection. It was a bit too cloudy for me though since we couldn't see Rainier today.
So we went to McChord. Lance BOUGHT ME A LAPTOP. We got a really excellent deal on it and we had a very very good week in the stock market, so we are both getting laptops. He is getting a MacBook. I just needed something for messing around online, doing some writing and maybe occasionally watching a DVD. So we got a Toshiba that was on sale for $599. No sales tax. Two people waiting after me at the electronics section were getting the exact same thing. They're probably sold out now.
I told him to consider it an early birthday gift to me. Now he's trying to hook it up to the internet, but not having much luck with it. Damn Windows Vista.
Anyway, we came home and let Reece out of her crate. She had been in there for nearly 5 hours at that point. Usually, Lance tries to get her straight from the crate to the backyard or else she loses control of her bladder almost immediately, mostly from the excitement of having us home. But today...she jumped out of her crate and ran straight toward me, shaking and spraying pee everywhere. I was covered in it.
I cleaned up the mess on the floor and, after putting away the groceries and picking up her medication (because the vet was about to close), I threw her in the bathtub. It was definitely a 2 person job. Lance held her while I soaped her down and rinsed her off. Then he tried to dry her off and when he let her out of the bathroom, she tore all around the house, stopping to pee in a couple of spots on the carpet. Again, I think it was anxiety. She's mostly housebroken and usually very good at holding it until she's outside.
Thank God for Nature's Miracle. That's all I have to say.
Anyway, Lance and I both had various tasks to do around the house. The big thing was putting together the barbecue grill, which took him much longer than he anticipated. I had to clean up the picnic table and reassemble it, as it had been propped up against the house since December, and was really icky. Reece was in the backyard with me and kept running off with one of the table legs. We had a doggie baseball that I picked out especially for her at the base exchange today, and she loves it, but was more interested in the table leg. So I had to wrestle that from her a few times, but it was hilarious to watch her run around the backyard with it.
After I got the table together and wiped down, along with the chairs, I took Reece for a walk around the neighborhood. She is doing better with walks. She doesn't generally like to go too far, and at some point, she gets tired of my apparently slow pace and grabs her leash in her teeth and walks herself. I'm still holding on to the leash, but she also holds on to it and she speeds way up when she does this. I think she would rather run, to tell the truth.
I got back and Lance was talking to my Mom. So I took the phone and talked to her for a bit. Lance finished assembling the grill while I was doing that. So we ended up having a late dinner, but it was pretty good. Handmade hamburgers, homemade baked beans and au gratin potatoes. We ate outside and had 80's music and Eric Clapton's greatest hits playing on the stereo. I had some nice wine and Lance had some beers and we were just hanging out. It was really nice.
It will be nicer once we get a decent patio set and not the crappy stuff we have now. But at least we have a really nice grill for a change.
Lance is still trying to get the laptop set up and I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't have gotten a MacBook myself. I just haven't used a Mac since I was a freshman in college.

Just out of idle curiosity, what were you guys in this week that did well in the market?
