One of the dangers of having a super cute puppy is that every single child in the neighborhood wants to come over to you. This is fine for me, since I'm no danger to kids. And Reece is wonderful with children, albeit a bit enthusiastic (jumping on them and almost knocking them over...trying to stick her nose up little skirts and dresses).

So I met one of the neighborhood kids today as I walked Reece past the park. She was cute...7 years old, she said. In a short, 5 minute conversation, I learned her name, her sister's name (and both their ages) and her mother's name and age. Her sister was nearby, but totally ignoring her, and her mother was nowhere to be seen.

When kids ask if they can pet Reece, I have no problem letting them. Usually, an adult is around. Today was the first time in which that was not the case.

I have to wonder how kids are so easy to offer their friendship...so willing to talk to strangers. When I was a kid (and this might have something to do with my dad being a cop...I don't know), we were always taught that you NEVER EVER talk to strangers, regardless of how harmless they look.

All it takes is one stranger with a cute puppy, and less than good intentions...

I shudder to think about it.
