I think I heard the Blue Angels just fly over the house.

It's too dark to run out and take a look. I figured they would be done with their flying for today. What I heard certainly was not a normal passenger jet. I know the sound of a fighter jet when I hear it.

Anyway, just finished my review of The Good Terrorist. I awaiting the next batch of books from my editor, but in the meantime, I'm doing some leisure reading. Still working on the Josephine B. series by Sandra Gulland. I'm liking it. A lot.

I barely got to speak with Lance today. I had a 2 minute phone call with him, lots of background noise so I couldn't really hear him...and all he wanted was to see if Reece was okay. She is fine now. She's eating and she's playing. Lance bought her a doggie toy at the Oshkosh air show. It's a bi-plane plushy.

Anyway, he's back at his mom's house now and he went to bed early, so he texted me goodnight and that was about it.

I took a pretty long nap on the couch this afternoon. It was pretty decadent. The sun was coming through the windows. Reece was curled up in her doggie bed. I slept nice and deeply.

I'm taking it easy tomorrow, but Lance's friend Rich and his wife invited Reece and I over for a bit, and they offered to feed me spaghetti, so I'm going. We're taking the dogs for a walk at the park.

My friend who invited me boating called me from her boat today. Sounded like they were having an absolute blast. And part of me still really wants to go, but I also know myself too well. I know how things are never quite as fun as I imagine them to be most of the time, and how I would be on the boat probably thinking about how I couldn't wait to get home and get in my pajamas and read a book. Part of tonight's local news broadcast was at Lake Washington at the Seafair festivities, and I know I would be uncomfortable among the crowds. It's even crowded out on the lake. Lots of boaters. When she called, her boat was tied up to two other boats, and they were all drifting along, listening to music and just hanging out. Yeah, sounds pretty fun...but the phone call was also noisy and I mostly crave peace and quiet.

My brother called when they arrived back in L.A. I think he was sorry to leave. He found his paradise up here in the Pacific Northwest. He admitted to Mom today that he liked downtown Seattle better than downtown Portland, but that Portland was more accessible and had better public transportation (not sure I necessarily agree with that assessment, since Seattle is pretty well covered in that respect), so he still wants to live there. He had nothing but the highest praise for pretty much everything here, especially the Olympic Peninsula.

I'm currently sitting here with a glass of wine...the smell of fresh banana bread filling the kitchen. I used a new-to-me banana bread recipe. I actually didn't have enough banana for it, but the comments on the recipe indicated that you could be a little short of the amount called for and the bread will still come out fine. I'll take a mini loaf to Rich and Kathy's tomorrow, and I also offered to bring a dessert.

On my agenda for tomorrow morning - a trip to the commissary. I don't really like driving down to McChord by myself, but I balk at the grocery prices anywhere else.

I spent an hour today buying tops on oldnavy.com. Yeah, I can go to the store. But it's difficult to do that at the moment, since Old Navy isn't exactly close. It's across from the Petsmart where we take Reece all the time, but I hate shopping, so I would rather pay the $7 flat shipping rate and get it sent to my house. I ordered 4 tops and a pair of trouser socks. It's still summer outside (despite the blanket of leaves in my backyard), but the air conditioning at work is way too cold, so I bought sweaters. And a new hoodie, since Reece has pretty much chewed holes in the sleeves of all the ones I have currently.
