Adventures with Puppy
Aug. 10th, 2008 03:12 pmReece and I went to Lake Meridian Park today - our first time out there.
It was nice. Not really the best place for dog walking, but it's a great little park. And I got Reece to put her front paws in the water. Lance and I are trying to help her get over her fear of going into the water. She's supposed to be a water dog, so I'm not sure what her problem is.
The only issue I had with her was that she kept eating horse poop. We would walk past some and before I could even register what was happening, she had a huge mouthful of it and was happily gulping it down. I'm totally mystified by this, because she has never shown any interest in poop before...or eating it, anyway. I took her down by the lake and she found some before I even saw it...down the hatch again.
So gross.
I had some treats in my purse, so I used those to cleanse her palate.
After exploring the park for nearly an hour, I took her to Mud Bay. I have never been there, but have been meaning to go. Our friends Rich and Kathy are always speaking so highly of it. The ladies working there were fantastic and gave Reece lots of tasty treats. I told them that I want to change her diet, and they provided me with a lot of free dog food samples from some of the brands that they carry, which are certainly healthier than the well-known brands.
I walked out of there with a Kong brush (we've been wanting to get her one and have been unable to find them), a piece of "Texas Taffy," which is a giant beef jerky treat that Reece grabbed out of a bucket in the bulk treats section, and a bully stick, along with the aforementioned samples and a treat sample as well.
We were both very happy. Reece ate half her Texas Taffy and then I took it away from her and she cried. But she'll get the other half later.
Lance and I were just on the phone. His visit with his dad was very short today, and now he's stuck in a hotel in Grand Rapids for another night, when he could've been back in Waseca instead. He's not too happy about it. But he planned an extra night in Grand Rapids because he wasn't sure how long his visit with his dad would go. So now he's bored.
I think next weekend, Lance and I will be going out to Lake Meridian for a picnic/barbecue. He wants to try to coax Reece out into the water.
