Gobble Gobble...
Nov. 22nd, 2008 11:28 amLance is having a bit of a problem installing the new shades, so we may postpone our grocery store outing until tomorrow morning/afternoon...just as long as we're back by 2:30, so I can go to the candle making/wine tasting event at Castle Bridge Winery.
Aside from the Thanksgiving items and the potluck item I need to take to Lance's work party (haven't decided what I'm bringing yet, but I'm leaning toward a very large pan of either au gratin potatoes or macaroni and cheese), I'm planning on shopping very very cheap. We'll have leftover turkey for awhile. We still have ground beef in the freezer. And smoked sausage. And I have leftover chili in the freezer. And we have tons of pasta, sauces and rice. So there is very little we really need to worry about buying aside from our Thanksgiving stuff.
So...the final menu:
- turkey breast (I am still trying to figure out a good rub for it) with Perfect Turkey Gravy
- mashed potatoes
- green bean casserole (the stuff with the french fried onions on top)
- whipped sweet potato bake
- stuffing (which Kathy is bringing)
- veggie/cheese tray
- homemade cranberry sauce
- Pillsbury butterflake rolls
- carrot quick bread
- pumpkin pie (special order from Shari's Restaurant)
- apple streusel pie (which Kathy is bringing)
Yeah...pretty heavy on the starch. But that's what Thanksgiving is all about. I'm also taking a few shortcuts without taking TOO many shortcuts. Given my work schedule this coming week, I'll be pretty wiped out by the time Thursday rolls around. Monday and Tuesday are going to be the busiest days I've ever had since I started working there. I'm almost breaking into a cold sweat just thinking about it.
So I'll bake the carrot bread this weekend and freeze that. The sweet potato casserole can be made the night before and baked on Thursday. Cranberry sauce can be made ahead. I'm trying not to make this too big of a deal. I want Thanksgiving to be very relaxed.
Oh...and heads up - The Peanuts Thanksgiving special is on Tuesday night on ABC.
Another TD by Ohio State! WOOOOOOOOOOT! FORTY-TWO TO SEVEN. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Suck it, Michigan!
