So...Lance and I got up early to venture out for blizzard preparation. They're saying that there could be widespread power outages and God only knows how long those might last. So we have to finally get the fireplace to be functional. And of course, we needed food, but we had to do our regular grocery shop anyway.

First, Lance went out and cleared all loose items out of the backyard. Anything that could be picked up and blown against the house, etc. Because last week, the wind picked up our stacked up patio chairs and threw them against our back door, which broke one of our chairs (and thankfully not the back door).

He'll be going out in a bit to get another propane tank for the gas grill. And possibly some more candles.

So anyway...we stopped at both Home Depot and Lowe's. We picked up new gas logs for the fireplace. But Lance may end up taking them back, because he's now examined the fireplace and has determined that the current logs are perfectly fine, just in desperate need of cleaning. I got an extra lighter too, because it would be just our luck if the power goes out and the current lighter happens to run out of fluid.

After both of these stops, we made a quick stop at the gas station to put some air in my tires. So the annoying air pressure warning light is gone now.

Then off to McChord. It was insanity to go there. They ran out of shopping carts, so before we even walked into the commissary, there was a long line of people waiting for shopping carts. So we had to stand out in the 20-degree cold to wait for our turn to get a cart. But finally we got one, and then it was navigating the aisles and all the various obstacles that got to be annoying. The line to the cash registers...holy mother of God. We waited over half an hour at the checkout and the line snaked through the bread, bakery, deli and frozen food sections of the commissary. Lance just got in line before we even finished shopping. I would just grab stuff, come by and throw them in the cart, and then go back out to get more things. It was really bad.

But we're home now. As we turned down our street, we discovered that our garage door was open. Not sure what happened, because we closed it when we left. But it was open and the door from the garage into the house doesn't have a lock on it. I immediately panicked. Nothing in the garage was stolen...and we had our lawn mower and bikes in there. As soon as Lance stopped the car, I ran inside to see if anything was amiss. And it looked like nothing had been touched. Reece was still crated. Our computers were still there, TV, etc. We were damn lucky.

The food is put away. I'll be spending the afternoon baking. Lance will be working on getting the fireplace in working order. I think we're okay now, but he was understandably a bit gun shy after that raging fireball came out of the fireplace on Christmas Day last year. Although he now understands why that happened and what he could've done to prevent it. The snow should start falling at any time. But it's not the snow that worries me as much as the winds they're predicting. Lance is keeping his eye on the radar, which shows a huge wall of solid white moving right toward us.

You need to put a lock on that door ASAP!

It's something we wanted to do anyway...but one of those "to do, but not urgent" things. I suppose we need to move it up to urgent. That way if this happens again, I can deal with things getting stolen out of the garage. But I'll be damned if I'm going to make it that easy for someone to get into our house.

I'd be freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaking out about the door incident. I hope that the winter storm isn't as bad as predicted. We were supposed to get an ice storm from hell but it thankfully missed us.
