Auld Lang Syne
Jan. 1st, 2009 09:58 amGreetings, 2009. Good riddance to 2008! Certainly not one of the most stellar years of my life, even though it started with a lot of optimism.
So...yesterday was pretty good. Work was busy, but not overwhelmingly so. And it was interesting to wear pajamas. Those of us who were pajama clad poked a little fun at the people who weren't. We were in the majority yesterday.
I got off work a few minutes late and went home. The radio was having a countdown, but between songs, they kept saying that they were playing the top 50 of 2007, which made me scratch my head a bit. And indeed, the songs they were playing were songs I heard on the radio when I was still in Germany and during our trip out here to find a house in October 2007. Some of them were from early 2007. Weird.
Anyway, I got home. I didn't bother to change out of my pajamas, because Kathy said our gathering was casual and low-key anyway, and I thought it was kind of ridiculous for me to wear pajamas all day, only to change into jeans to go and hang out with my friends. We left shortly after 6 to go to their house. They had snacks set out...veggies and chips with dips, crackers, cheese and salami. I brought some of the German goodies that
katzies sent. Kathy baked some chocolate chip cookies. She made cappuccino for early in the evening and we had Prosecco later on, which was really good mixed with orange juice.
Lance and Rich played some Wii bowling. Kathy took me up to their office so I could look at their book collection, which made me so jealous. I had to thin out my collection considerably before and after Germany, and I'm just now starting to build it up again. I borrowed some books from her, as well as a movie.
As it got closer to midnight, we watched CNN to check out the various New Year's celebrations around the US and the world. Then we switched to a local station to see if the Space Needle fireworks would be epic fail once again. Well, they weren't, but they were also unimpressive and brief. I think the entire fireworks show lasted about 7 minutes. So while the fireworks actually did manage to detonate this year, they were still epic fail in the sense that they sucked.
I think we left their place around 1:30 or so. My allergies were getting bad, which is totally my fault because I always forget to take an allergy pill before I go over there. I slept ok, I suppose. Woke up this morning with crusty eyes (the aftermath of my allergies) and feeling like a trainwreck. But after a hot shower, I should be okay again.
I used my Cocoa-Latte maker for the first time this morning. I wanted to use up the rest of my caramel cider drink mix, so I poured apple juice into it, added the drink mix, and let the machine blend it, instead of doing it by hand. It worked really well. When I blended the drink by hand before, it would always leave a lot of residue in the mug once I was done with my drink. Not so with the Cocoa-Latte maker. Can't wait to get some instant coffee and tea mixes to try with it. I've always wanted to make a good cup of chai at home.
Anyway, I'm rambly this morning, apparently. And I really should take a shower and get dressed. I think Lance and I are going out to the cinema to see Marley & Me today. It's not going to be a pretty day, weather-wise (I think we're expecting about 2 inches of rain), so it's a good day to see a movie. And we haven't been to one in ages, anyway.
Let's hope that 2009 is the best year yet!
