God help us, we've been spending time on Petfinder today looking for a sister for Reece. We hope to adopt again very soon.

She needs a playmate.

But honestly, can we handle a 2nd dog? Sometimes I'm unsure. Reece is such a handful on her own. The problem is that we're not giving her enough exercise, and I think a playmate will help. They can run each other ragged in the backyard and at the dog park.

So we would need to find a dog that can match her energy. And I want something either the same size as her or smaller, around the same age or slightly older. Not doing the whole puppy thing again. Reece has mostly outgrown that. She'll be a year old 2 weeks from Saturday (and yes, I am planning on going to a dog bakery to pick up a special treat for her).

I saw a beautiful Basenji mix on the website that might make a good match for Reece, although it sounds like she is a bit pushy with other dogs (although Reece is bigger than her, not that I think that matters much, since smaller dogs can act more aggressive to compensate for their stature). She matches up with Reece in other qualities, though. And Reece can be pushy too, when she feels like it. But we would prefer to adopt from the same rescue where we got Reece. It would save us all the steps of filling out the paperwork and waiting for approval.

I don't know - I think two pets are just as easy as one. THey kind of entertain themselves. :)

I was thinking that. But Reece's stuff takes up so much space already. And we would have to get a second crate. A second water/food bowl. Another doggie bed. More toys.

My biggest concern is that between Reece and the new dog, I would have to get up half a dozen times in the night. I have enough sleep problems as it is.

I think some shelters and stuff let you bring your existing dog with you to meet new dog and make sure everyone is all happy.
I didn't think about stuff like crates and stuff - to be honest I've never had a dog with a crate so I wouldn't even know how to go about all of that.
