I love seattle.

I'm sorry, but I think this whole Swine Flu thing is being blown hugely out of proportion. YAY for journalism! I'm not saying we shouldn't take it seriously, but let's get some perspective.

The regular flu has killed more people, and there are far more things that have caused death on a massive scale than this. I'm reserving judgment until more is known about it.

Me, too. The Swine Flu is, to me, the Bird Flu/Mad Cow/Ebola/SARS/Flesh-eating bacteria scare du jour. Junkfood Science has an intelligent and FACTUAL article about this "pandemic" which puts it all in perspective.

But of course putting the facts out isn't sexy and nobody could make money off of that.

I think everyone's overreacting, too. It's ridiculous. It also makes you realize how little the general public understands basic science. Or basic facts.

I think people love the excitement of freaking out over something like this.

Its ridiculous. The Fort Worth school district has shut down till May 11th!!! That's 80,000 kids sent home. During TAKS testing!!!

Its the flu. It comes every year. It kills 35,000 people a year. So far we are at less than 200. Deal with it.

Oh my God thank you! Finally, someone else who thinks people need to just pull it together and stop panicking. It's 2009 people, not a visitation of the Plague in the Middle Ages! People were so jittery about it at work today (we got a memo sent round about it - even advised us on how to wash our hands........ No, seriously!) and David's been uncharacteristically panicky about it, there is just far too much hype
