Girl Power
May. 8th, 2009 10:43 pmSo tonight, Kathy and I headed to the Wine Women Wow event in downtown Kent. It wasn't what either of us expected. Not to say that it was bad. We had fun. But it was very much a convention atmosphere. In a way, I kind of expected that, but not to the extent that it was.
We were one of the first 300 in the door, so we got a swag bag. It didn't look like much at first, but upon inspection when I got home, a lip gloss and a pair of earrings were buried at the bottom. There was also a pen and pencil. The rest of what was inside was mostly brochures and business cards of the various vendors who were there. We also got a free wine glass with the Wine Women Wow logo on it and 2 free drink tickets.
The wine, from Olympic Cellars, was very good. They had white, rose and red, and I tried both the rose (called Rose the Riveter) and the white (Working Girl White, a really tasty blend of Riesling and Chardonnay). I bought 2 t-shirts from them: one for me and one for Mom.

HAHAHA. So cute!
There was supposed to be food, but they ran out before Kathy and I could even eat. The event was 4 hours, and they ran out of food before the first hour. What kind of crap is that? Some of the vendors had food. Panera bread was there, so we got samples of their asiago bread dipped in Greek dressing. A bakery was there passing out these amazing slices of cake (we got chocolate caramel). Tastefully Simple was there and we tried a couple of their dips and I walked away with their Oh My Chai mix. But all in all, the little nibbles we had here and there did not make for a substantial meal (and isn't sufficient when you're drinking either).
Oh, and I got a free massage there too. It was about 10 minutes long and the catch was that I had to sign a form for the chiropractor's office that was doing this, and I had to take a posture test. Naturally, my posture sucks (and I know it does anyway) and they recommended a consultation. I gave them a fake phone number. I just wanted the massage. It hurt so bad at first, but that's only because my muscles have been so incredibly tense. But about half way through, it started to feel really good and I felt so much better afterwards.
Anyway, we needed to find food after we left. So we were debating where to go and decided on Shari's, since it was close to Kathy's place. But we were passing this great Mexican restaurant and I impulsively suggested that we eat there. Lance and I had been to that place before with my parents. So we had a great meal there and then called it a night.
All in all, a fun night. I was kind of disappointed with Wine Women Wow and I'm not sure I would go again. I think Kathy enjoyed it more than I did. But I was happy to be with her and it doesn't really matter what we do when we're together.
