Day 29 with no measurable rainfall. We had a bit of a drizzle 2 weeks or so ago, but that doesn't really count. Everything is drying out. The grass is brown and crunchy. The record dry spell is 29 days, so we will at least match it.

Rain is in the forecast today. But even though the sky is overcast, we haven't had a single drop yet.

As long as it stays dry, I'll get Reece out for a brisk walk after lunch.

Wrote up a book review this morning for C.W. Gortner's The Last Queen. Fascinating novel and even more fascinating woman (Queen Juana of Spain, early 16th century). Waiting on another shipment of books to arrive, but hopefully I'll have time to squeeze in something else before that gets here. I started Letters to a Young Poet last night, but that's very short. Will finish that today.

Want to at least start another article this afternoon. I submitted one yesterday about Castle Bridge Winery here in Kent and how they can help you make and bottle your own wine. I would like to do a quick write-up about LaConner today as a town worth visiting in its own right, and not just because of the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. I'm just trying to build up a bigger base of articles on Associated Content so I can hopefully earn some ad revenue off them after the initial payments I receive. All in all, not worth a lot, but it's better than nothing.

Two weeks from today, we leave for Ohio. Very excited, but I also dread boarding Reece for a week. She's only been boarded overnight before. She'll have terrible separation anxiety, and so will we, I'm guessing. But I am looking forward to going home and seeing the family and attending the family reunion. Still trying to figure out what dish to bring for that. I really want to bring something indicative of the Pacific NW, but dungeness crab and salmon, or probably any seafood for that matter, are out. Besides, they're too expensive. And last time I attended the family reunion, I brought something too exotic, and nobody wanted to eat it (it was bruschetta, for crying out loud! Not that weird). Guess I better stick with good old Midwestern fare. Some kind of cheesy casserole or something with Jello or Cool Whip. Foodies they are not, but my family knows what they like.

I saw this recipe on the can of fiesta corn I opened last night, but I don't know how well it'll keep in the heat...probably not very well. But it's probably the type of thing that would go over well. Cheap and easy.
