I think I need some autumn icons or something. It's going to start feeling very autumnal here soon, and it usually does in the mornings now. It tends to warm up and feel like summer in the afternoons.

Anyway, September has started off pretty well. I was afraid it wouldn't, because I didn't sleep very well last night. That was mostly Reece's fault. I think she woke me up 5 times. But I also wasn't particularly sleepy until late.

I stayed up and watched Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations until 11 last night, about an hour after Lance went to bed. It was probably the best episode I've ever seen. It was from his trip to Beirut in 2006. A conflict broke out with Israel during his time there, and the Israeli military blew up the airport, so he and his crew were stranded in Beirut. From there, it stopped being a travel show and became a documentary about violence and fear and the effects of war. Obviously he got out eventually (the U.S. Marines swooped in and rescued a bunch of refugees and stranded Americans). Excellent TV. Here's Bourdain's article about his experience...definitely worth reading, even if it was written 3 years ago.

Tangent, I know - but seriously...the best thing I've watched on TV in awhile.

Anyway, so this morning, I woke up to find out that one of the books I listed on amazon.com yesterday had sold. So I have that ready to mail out.

Lance is going to come home around noon, we'll eat lunch, and then go to base to get our ID cards renewed. His re-enlistment should take place around 9 or so. And since it will be official, I can talk to the Education Center today and get the ball rolling on this program I want to do. And maybe I can enroll today and put in the request for tuition assistance.

Otherwise, just day job stuff and doing some work outside the house. I did a fair amount of gardening yesterday. I made some organic herbicide (vinegar mixed with salt) to spray on the weeds growing through the cracks in our patio. I pulled weeds. I trimmed. Lance used the new hedge clipper to cut back the rhodedendrons. But the work isn't done yet.

Lance's work picnic is Thursday and I'm signed up for baked beans, so I guess I better buy the ingredients for that today as well. I think I need to get one of those huge cans of pork and beans and an onion and I should be set. I have all the add-ins already here at home.

I'm just hoping that I'm not coming down with something. I've been a bit sinusy the past couple days - sinus headache on Sunday, sniffles...my throat feels slightly scratchy this morning. Or maybe it's just due to the weather being damp and foggy in the mornings and warm and sunny in the afternoons.
