I can't work at home, because construction workers have descended upon the house next door, where our neighbor is doing a huge renovation project (in the pouring rain, no less) and they've been spending the day pouring concrete and doing whatever else they're doing. So I've been listening to a cacophony of cement mixers and other annoying construction machinery all day. Whatever I'm hearing now, it's one of the most annoying sounds I've ever heard in my life. I'm not even kidding.

So I tried to work at the library. And I guess libraries are the new Starbucks, because hey, it's apparently totally ok to hang out on your laptops with your friends, chat, and watch the latest YouTube videos. I could not find one single quiet spot in the whole damn library. The study rooms, which are first come, first served, were all taken.

I left the library in a huff. Briefly entertained the idea of trying to work at Starbucks (because it couldn't be any worse than the library), but decided instead to come home, where I'm now listening to the endless whining of this ridiculous construction equipment next door.

I JUST WANT SOME EFFING PEACE AND QUIET! IS THERE ANYWHERE IN THE VICINITY THAT CAN MAKE THAT HAPPEN?

I know what you mean about libraries! What the hell is up with them becoming noisy? I know at Ball State sometimes it was a freaking zoo!

I've always found academic libraries to be much quieter, but that's also because I was always sitting somewhere in the neglected stacks, where I could die and nobody would find my body for years.

I miss academic libraries. *sigh* Public libraries are too much of a madhouse.
