Olympic Fever
Feb. 12th, 2010 08:39 amI'm ridiculously excited for the start of the Olympics tonight. And I guess because it's 2 hours away from us, it feels even more exciting. It has taken over everything here...not just because Vancouver is so close, but because we have some serious medal contenders from the Seattle area.
Take Apolo Ohno, for example. He's from Federal Way, which is about a 15 minute drive from my house. There are places here locally giving out free soul patches for people to stick on their chins as a way of cheering him on (unless, of course, you can grow your own). Alaska Airlines sponsors him and has an Apolo Ohno Boeing 737.

It's madness, MADNESS I tell you...and it's fun to watch.
I've had a few people ask me if Seattle is expecting an increase of tourism. Well, I suppose so. After all, it's pretty easy to get down here from Vancouver. But my theory is, if we have an increase in tourism, it's because the citizens of Vancouver are fleeing for 2 weeks to get away from the insanity. Naturally, Seattle would be a good place to stay. The landscape, climate and vibe are all very similar.
Anyway, I need to finish up all the work I have planned for today so I can be ready to watch the opening ceremonies tonight. I can't wait!
