I haven't even been a Relay for Life participant for 24 hours yet, and I've already raised $300.

THIS IS AMAZING! My mind is blown, seriously. I raised $185 in the first hour, and I was sobbing with overwhelming joy and gratitude as the donation notices came in. This is a beautiful thing. And this is going to help me with my healing process too. You feel so helpless when you're watching someone die of cancer. Even if you're caring for them, and you're doing what you can, you still feel helpless. You can't protect that person the way they had protected you for your entire life. This is the only way I feel I can fight back.

Not that this matters, because it doesn't - cancer matters...people matter. But it's fun to see my name ranked #11 on the top 100 fundraisers list for the Kent Relay for Life. And I have a little bronze medal icon next to it.

I need to up my own donation. I just did the minimum $10 for starters with the intention to put in more later. I'm going to order a luminaria so that Grandma and Grandpa have a candle lit in honor of them at the relay.

Anyway, I would appreciate it if you guys could spread the word to anyone who might be interested in helping me fight cancer. My new goal is $500, and perhaps that's still too low - but it pleases me to see the e-mails come in that tell me that my goal has been reached.

P.S. Just to warn you all, I'll be posting this link occasionally within the next 94 days. I'm not trying to annoy you, but this is for a good cause. A very good cause. Do you know anyone at all who hasn't been affected by cancer in some way?

Would it be ok to send you a check? I'm trying to limit the places I use my credit card online.

Yes, that's fine. I can add in check/cash donations once I receive them so that they're recorded in my donation totals.

Unfortunately, I can't find on their website any information about how to do this - whether you should make the check out to me or the American Cancer Society. I'm thinking ACS (for tax deduction purposes), but there is no info on how I then get the check to them once I have it.

Let me do a bit of research on this and I'll get back to you.

It looks like I just send the check to them along with a form that has your name on it.

Ok...I thought I saw that somewhere on their website yesterday (it's not user-friendly AT ALL), but I could not for the life of me find it again. All I could find was the form to fill out for people who directly hand me or send me cash or check donations.

That makes it much easier! Thank you! :)

Nevermind. I see the link on my page to the form. But it would be easier to add it with the donation button.
