Let the snarky comments begin, I guess. There was already one (well, maybe not snarky, but not positive), last time I checked.

I don't see any negative comments there, actually.

You basically outlined why I'm hoping to ditch E with Markus and go off on my own. I figure Munich will be kind of empty and I'd love to go exploring.

The first comment (anti-stoke or whatever it was he said) was probably more of an observation than anything. But it's true...I wasn't exactly stoked about going in the first place.

The editor figured I would get a lot of negative comments. There is one now, actually.

Looking at the comments I think that there is method in asking for things that suck. If you write about things that suck, then you're going to get more buzz and more people saying "No, it's great: this is what you should have done", which is all constructive and useful. If you write about how good it was, comments really will be snarky and unhelpful. Just a thought.

I don't know what Matador thinks about authors responding to comments, but I think it probably works better if you step back and let readers argue it out themselves.

Some of the responses - which are negative about the article - actually ARE useful. The ones about the restrooms in particular. I never said there WEREN'T restrooms outside the beer tents. I just said I never found any. So I'm glad people are at least pointing out what to look for to find them.

Some of the responses aren't really useful at all. But yeah, I think you're right, and I've considered this too. Honestly, the more buzz it generates, the more money I get.

Matador, theoretically, does allow us to repond to comments, but I've tried about half a dozen times and I keep being told my login doesn't work (I've tried Matador's login, as well connecting through Facebook, Yahoo, and Google). I gave up. It's probably pointless to post a rebuttal anyway, because I'm sure the people who responded have already forgotten about it and moved on. They're not likely to see it anyway. I'm just flabbergasted that people don't seem to realize that I was asked to write a negative article.

I just hope they ask me to write a more upbeat piece sometime. I was told that they would like me to contribute again.
