Lance appointed me the task today of going through the house and making a list of things that we don't want the movers to take. They are going to come twice. First, they come and take most of our stuff. Then they come later, close to our actual moving date, and take the basic household necessities that we didn't have them take the first time...mostly kitchen stuff, I am figuring out. Obviously we need plates to eat on, silverware, glasses, cookware, etc. And we need a vacuum cleaner.

We get a 500 pound allowance for this stuff, and can also afford to keep some small luxuries, like a stereo or something. No TV though. And Lance is thinking about keeping my computer, although he'll have his laptop, so I think that should serve us both well on a temporary basis.

We have 1 room on each floor dedicated to keeping these things...anything that needs to be moved out of these rooms will be placed in another room for the movers to take. Everything staying behind will be placed in these rooms, the doors closed, and the rooms absolutely off limits to the movers.

I actually think this list will be easier to compile once we get rid of some of our stuff. But I have a good start on it already.

I keep reminding Lance that this is my first PCS. He thinks I've been through this before, since I was down in Georgia with him when the movers came to take his stuff to ship here. But I was only there for that part of the moving process (and we weren't even married yet...just engaged). I wasn't there for all the paperwork and the planning and the list-making and all that other stuff. And I was here on the flipside of the move when the movers came with his stuff.

But this is my first PCS officially. And yeah, we have checklists and stuff like that, but it's mostly for paperwork and things. Things that Lance has to do. Although all this list-making is one of the things on the checklist, so I suppose I'm getting that done.

(That, and the sending out resumes/job search part, because that's also on the checklist.)

Still soooooo much to do. GAH!

One thing I just thought of: my resumes and cover letters should be saved to my flash drive. Right now, that stuff is on my hard drive.

Laundry is in progress at the moment. I guess I need to do some cleaning. The house is looking really dusty again, but then again, it's pretty much always dusty...even right after I dust. I need to write that cover letter for the job I applied for yesterday. And I think that completes today's agenda.

Well, there's a good possibility that we'll only have Lance's truck for about 5 more days. If he's able, he'll take it Saturday to get it detailed. The guy who does the work is booked pretty solid, but because this is rather urgent, he might do Lance's truck on Sunday. So we'll have to drop it off on Saturday. It'll take him 24 hours, and then Lance will just ship the truck on Monday.

Which means no Park & Sell on Saturday, probably. So much for getting rid of excess stuff that we don't need/want. Or at least having a good way to do that, I mean.

And that means my car will be working overtime for the next couple of months. And will have to haul a lot of things. Because we'll be carting bags and bags full of trash to the sorting center at Schinnen.

And there's a possibility that we may have to live in temporary housing at McChord for the first couple weeks after getting there. And we won't have a car. And Lance doesn't want to buy a car for me immediately upon arrival.

And and and...

In other news, Lance's favorite house on our list is now sale pending. No, this is not the dome house. He found this house yesterday, actually...newly listed. So it went pretty quickly. I was indifferent about it. It was an okay house...a fine house...the 70's threw up all over the kitchen. But it was a good house. But it was also a bit over the high end of our price range.

We still have plenty to choose from, and our agent says that we should see about 8-10 houses a day. So we just need to determine how many days we're actually going to spend looking at houses and then how many days we're going to go back for 2nd viewings. Perhaps we can pare down to about 30 houses...which means we have about 15-20 to take off our list.
