I already broke one of my New Year's resolutions, which was to write in my paper journal, even if it was only a sentence, every single day.

I totally forgot to do it yesterday. I suck.

Oh well. In the whole grand scheme of things, it's not THAT big of a deal. It's not like it's a huge resolution that has some sort of profound impact on my life or something.

I'll just have to try and remember to do it from now on.

Also, one of my other writing resolutions is to write one snail mail letter per month (at least). Who shall be the lucky recipient in January?

I started taking down the Christmas decorations last night. Reece is seriously displeased. We just need to remember to change the ring tone on our landline phones. Right now, they all play "Jingle Bells." I don't want there to be one scrap of Christmas left in this house by this evening. I'm ready to move on with my life.

I don't know how much stock I take in horoscopes. I read them sometimes for fun.

Here's the Gemini horoscope for 2009. I think it describes me pretty well. (I got this from Yahoo.)

Year 2009 Overview

As a Gemini, you possess an amazing ability to see dualities -- the pros and cons of situations as change approaches -- and to quickly and efficiently think them through before making any decisions. In 2009, you dare to look deeply into your desires, regenerate self-awareness and recognize psychological ambiguities. This will bring balance into your home and family life. Pay attention to the details as you bring your inner and outer life into harmony. And be sure to enjoy the changes occurring within you!

As you come to terms with yourself, you are able to see a more fulfilling purpose in life, and your field of experience broadens. Focus on matters that affect you most deeply and, like magic, your life will become easier and things will seem to take care of themselves. You have all the necessary resources and motivation to make tangible changes and achieve results this year.

Toward the end of the year, you'll have time to enjoy yourself, and to bask in a great sense of accomplishment. With the expansive and idealistic energy flowing throughout 2009, Gemini is very comfortable in this age of new awareness and high-mindedness.

Completely random and not at all to the point of my post, but Lance and I did something that was pretty hilarious this morning. He got a USB flash drive/pen/laser pointer for Christmas. So he was testing out the laser pointer on Reece, since she loves playing with it. And I decided to grab the laser pointer that we usually use. So she had 2 red dots to chase. We thought her head would explode trying to figure out which one she wanted to pursue.

Anyway, we ventured out for our biweekly shopping excursion. I think after the last time (the Saturday before Christmas and just hours before a blizzard was slated to hit), we can tolerate the lunacy of a normal weekend day. And I cannot even tell you how crazy it is at this commissary on the weekends. If it wasn't for the fact that we save so much money shopping there, we wouldn't bother.

We stopped at Dairy Queen for lunch on the way there. They have really good crispy chicken sandwiches. I had my heart set on getting teriyaki at the base food court. But I can get that next time. Lance thought we should indulge in one last fried food extravaganza, because he wants to make a commitment to eat better starting on Monday and I already plan to do so (and have done so successfully before without a whole lot of willpower being involved).

Anyway - we stopped at the base exchange before the commissary. We're looking at getting a Blu-Ray DVD player, so Lance wanted to see what they had. He'll do a bit of research on Consumer Reports first before we commit to anything. I picked up some clearance Christmas lights for my tabletop tree - only 57 cents! And a new calendar to hang on the refrigerator.

I stopped at Starbucks for my last eggnog latte. They have new Tazo tea lattes now, which I might get seriously addicted to if I try one.

Got our shopping done. Nothing interesting there, except we got to the coffee/tea aisle and I was looking at stuff to try out for my Cocoa-Latte maker. There was a huge tin of chai mix that I almost bought, but that's too easy. I wanted to try out the chai recipes that were in the little recipe booklet. So I got some instant tea and then went to the spice aisle to look for spices. Well, they actually have a chai spice blend now, which saves me from having to buy all those individual spices, and I can use it in baked goods too. So tomorrow I will make my first cup of chai in there and see how it goes. I can experiment with all sorts of things. Maybe next time I'll get some instant coffee so I can make some lattes and mochas.

I was going to stop at Kohl's today, but decided against it. I just don't feel like leaving the house again. I'll spend the evening taking down the Christmas decorations. Everything is done now but the tree, but it's still a matter of packing things away. The ornaments take the longest because most of them are fragile and unique, so we want to wrap them up very carefully before packing them. And I have to run the vacuum.

I need to write up a book review for The King's Daughter. It was amazing. I'll probably watch more episodes of The Tudors tonight.

Reece has a vet appointment tomorrow. Her 1 year check-up, some shot updates. I'll get her nails trimmed there too while we're at it. I tried to make an appointment for her for doggie daycamp this next week, and they wouldn't let her in until her Bordetella was updated. So we'll do that tomorrow, and she'll be in Tuesday and Thursday.

We've decided to wait on a 2nd dog, by the way. We need to get some more projects done around the house. It's hard enough to do these things with one dog. Maybe this summer, we'll look at getting a 2nd dog. I would just like to get a couple more rooms painted...maybe the kitchen floor redone.

Anyway, methinks it's time to scamper off to make some sloppy joes for dinner. And oven fries.
