Bless her heart. She begged me not to get her anything.

At Christmas, she didn't want anything. She insisted upon it. So I made a charitable donation in her name and "adopted" a Bald Eagle on her behalf.

Now her birthday is approaching (April 10th), but I've known for a month what I would get her.

Chukar Cherries.

It's perfect. She already has everything she could need, so food is really the best gift she could get (aside from books, but she's such a voracious reader that there's a good chance I would get her something she already read). She is forever going on about how not enough things are made in the Good Ole' US of A anymore, and Chukar Cherries is a local company using products that are produced here in Washington.

I was at the Chukar Cherries store in Pike Place Market 4 weeks ago, and I sampled their chocolate cherries. Delicious, and they have a gift assortment that comes in a box decorated with various Seattle landmarks. Perfect. The particular gift set I got her also comes with a jar of their cherry pecan caramel popcorn.

Well, this:

Anyway...I think she'll like it. And my folks will likely be there that weekend for her birthday celebration/Easter, so hopefully they can all enjoy it.

ROTFLMAO

Damn you, [livejournal.com profile] venus_starlet...you just had to share the link to [livejournal.com profile] thrifthorror with me. Hehehe. ;)

I'm sitting here looking at the pictures and reading the captions, that I'm cackling to the point of hyperventilating, and tears are coming from my eyes.

Lance had to come into the living room to make sure I wasn't dying.

My hometown university's team (University of Findlay Oilers) just finished their Division II National Championship game, which was televised on CBS. Tied at 2.4 seconds, they made a 3 point shot right at the buzzer. Absolutely amazing finish. One for the ages, truly.

I screamed.

Woot! Findlay!

Good on ya, guys. Findlay represent!

ka-ching!

So we took Lance's huge pickle jar full of change to the Coinstar machine at the grocery store. We selected a Lowe's e-certificate so they wouldn't take the surcharge.

Almost $275! New storm door!!

We walked out very very happy. You don't think of change as being terribly significant, until you save up quite a lot of it. And now we have enough money to replace something that desperately needs replacing, and we don't need to earmark any funds for it.

Woot!

After that errand, we went to the post office to mail out a package to Lance's mom. Then we stopped at Jiffy Lube to get an oil change for my car. They even vacuumed the interior and cleaned the exterior of the windows (pointless, since it's raining). That took all of half an hour...so much faster than Firestone. I don't think I'll ever go to Firestone again (the last time I went there for an oil change, it took TWO HOURS...I spent most of that time across the street at a McDonald's, sipping a latte and trying to read). Lance wants to switch to Jiffy Lube now too.

Then to the auto parts store so Lance could get a new air filter for his truck.

Reece was out of the crate all the while (less than 2 hours), but she has now lost her out of crate privileges. We came home to shredded paper all over the floor - nothing of huge significance except for a $3 Petsmart coupon. And she damaged the hat that Lance wears with his BDUs. So he has to get a new one.

It's kind of yucky out, so I'm not sure we'll go anywhere else today, although I'm kind of anxious now to go to Lowe's and look at storm doors. We needed to replace ours last year, but the windows took priority.
