First of all, if you ever tell people that you're going to take a day off the Internet, don't do what I did and text a status update for Facebook from your cellphone. I don't have Internet access on my phone, but everybody thought I did, so I got a few messages teasing me about cheating. I DID NOT CHEAT! Internet was off limits. Texting was not.

Anyway, I got a lot accomplished yesterday. My day was mostly work and little play, but that was fine. A project that has needed doing for awhile got done.

Let's see...so I walked Reece twice yesterday. One short walk and one longer walk with Lance. I gave myself a pedicure. Wrote a really long entry in my paper journal. Read a lot (finished a novel and read some various books/magazines). Went to the library. Ran errands with Lance, which resulted in us going to Target and getting an electric skillet.

And here's where I ended up doing the unexpected work on the project. I had to find room for this skillet. Our kitchen is pretty limited in terms of storage. So I went through cabinets and drawers, getting rid of things we don't need/use and rearranging what was left. All the cabinets and drawers under the countertops are completely rearranged in a way that makes so much more sense. There is room for everything now and it's neatly organized.

I also did some other cleaning that needed doing.

Lance and I had a cookout and sat out on the patio for dinner. It was nice.

I think that's everything, but that's a lot in one day. I realize just how much time I waste online. Yes, I do a lot of constructive things on it too...research, work, etc. But I need to make a conscious effort to spend less time just browsing around for no good reason and actually take care of real life things that need to be done.

One of the books I checked out at the library yesterday was Vintage Paper Crafts by Anna Corba. I have a bunch of card stock and paper crafting supplies, and this book is gorgeous and inspires me to do some projects.

I mean, just look at this woman's art. Wowza. So pretty.

And it occurred to me last night that I already have one vintage book I can use for craft projects. When Lance and I got engaged, one of my professors gave me a Bridal Souvenir book. These little books were published in the late 18th century. At the front of the book is a page listing the details of the wedding (these pages were removed from mine, unfortunately...I also think it renders the book much less valuable) and the rest of the book contains a lot of poetry and prose about marriage. My particular book was published in 1876, I believe.

Lance doesn't think I should destroy it for crafting. But I don't really think the book is worth much, if anything. And it doesn't have any particular sentimental significance to me. The professor who gave it to me isn't someone for whom I have the fondest memories, given all that happened that academic year.

I don't really look at it as a destruction. I am repurposing the book to make it into art. While I don't normally condone the destruction of books, I can get behind it if the books are damaged. This one is not in the best shape. The removal of the pages in the front kind of screwed up the binding on it. And I don't have any use for the book currently, except that it sits on the shelf in front of our wedding album.

I really need to get to work on my writing for today. I never imagined I would spend so much time this morning getting caught up from yesterday's Internet hiatus. Geez. This only goes to show me how much of my life I live online.
