Sep. 8th, 2006 02:00 pmSince I am well aware that not everyone here is a regular reader of my English Culture forum (and I assume that really NONE of you are), I'm going to post this here, in case anyone has any suggestions.
Here's my article about Victorian/Dickensian Christmas festivals and events:
http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art26043.asp
(I apologize for the pun in the title...I couldn't resist).
If you know of any not on this list, please tell me. I want to make this list as comprehensive as possible. There are literally thousands of these types of festivals, and I wanted to cover some of the larger ones that are yearly events (I laugh at the "Victorian Christmas" at places like Dollywood and Branson, MO). But obviously I could never include them all.
Thanks.

Date: 2006-09-08 12:19 pm (UTC)HAHAHA @ "real Germans from Germany." It reminds me of the time I went to an Italian restaurant in downtown Cincinnati and told Lance..."Wow! The food must be good! It's Italian cooked by real Italians!" He thought it was hilarious. ;) I mean, it's not like I go into a Chinese restaurant and say that.
But seriously, you have to come to Germany for the real German Christmas Markets. It's just not the same otherwise.

Re: Pun

Personally, I like Aachen's Christmas market. And I want to go to the medieval one in Cologne this year.

Date: 2006-09-08 01:51 pm (UTC)I've occasionally suggested to German students that I've known that they go and visit the "German market". They're highly skeptical, but they come back the next day with a stunned look and a "Hey, it's a *real* German Christmas market" comment :}
You'll just have to come and experience it yourself :)
(Not in Germany! it's in Europe, isn't that enough ? :)
