Good Things Come in Mysterious Packages
Dec. 21st, 2006 11:11 amI got an unexpected, mysterious package in the mail today. Want to see what was in it?
Remember how back in April, I found out that I was a finalist in a photography contest, and that all the finalists were going to be published in an anthology?
Well, I finally got the long-awaited anthology...so long-awaited, that I had forgotten about it entirely.
First observation - there were A LOT of finalists. I never stood a chance of winning the grand prize.
Second observation - my photograph is tiny. In order to really get a feel for the photograph and the time and place in which I photographed it, you need to see it full size. I'm actually a bit disappointed, particularly since I had to buy this anthology.
Third observation - some of these pictures just aren't very good. Which leads me to wonder what their standards were...if they chose everyone who submitted, or if they actually did have a selection process. I mean seriously, some of these photos were just of people's pets, and there was nothing artistic or special about them...they were just ordinary.
I was assured by the art director of Connection magazine that this photograph would appear with my Venice feature in next month's issue...possibly even on the cover. Still, I am going to post it here, for those who haven't seen it yet and want to get a better idea of what the photograph actually looks like.

It's paperback...I thought it would be hardback. And it arrived a slight bit damaged. |
My photograph (geez, it's small) all the way on page 227. |
