May. 13th, 2007 09:25 pmHope all mothers and moms-to-be out there are having a great Mother's Day! Luckily for me, the Picnic with the Pops schedule is out today, so I made a date with my mom (and my stepdad, since his birthday is tomorrow) to see the Patriotic Pops concert on June 30. And I am providing the picnic as well as the pops.
Anyway, the cousins are here and tucked snugly into bed. My aunt just went to bed downstairs. We have a bit of a crisis, because she's a photographer, and her camera broke. She didn't discover it until she was already here. So I'm letting her borrow my camera, which will be difficult for me, because it's almost like I have it surgically attached to my face when I'm traveling. But it might be nice not actually taking pictures for a change.
For the most part, the travel gods have been smiling down on them. They arrived a half an hour early (good thing I checked the flight schedule before we left!) and the weather was MUCH better than forecasted. It actually got into the 70's today, and we only had a few sprinkles.
Once they arrived in Frankfurt (horrible airport, by the way), they got euros from the ATM, and then we went on our merry way. We stopped in Rudesheim and had lunch at a little cafe there (we all had hot ham and cheese sandwiches...we weren't in the mood for heavy food), and we walked around Rudesheim and took the ski lift up to the Franco-Prussian War monument (otherwise known as the Neiderwald Denkmal). We didn't spend much time up there...we had 3 hours on the parking meter. We left Rudesheim with about 45 minutes to spare and drove up the Rhine, stopping a few times to take pictures of castles and stuff.
We got back here around 6. We were all pretty hungry by then (especially Lindsey, since she only ordered a macchiato at lunch). She devoured 3 pieces of my cool veggie pizza, and said it was awesome. Everyone was happy with the food. I remembered to put out some Ploughman's pickle to go with the cheese and crackers, and Sue loved that. We had a brief thunderstorm, and when that was over, Sue and I took a walk around the neighborhood. Lori and Lindsey were wiped out.
Hopefully the weather will hold tomorrow and be halfway decent. I'm giving them the chance to sleep in. We don't really need to go to Thorn until lunchtime or so.
Off to bed with me soon. It's been a long day. I'm going to be scarce on LJ for awhile...but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I haven't been terribly interesting lately anyway.
